International Monetary Fund - An organisation set up by Bretton Woods to overlook the fixed exchange rate regime (now ceased) and to provide borrowing facilities to allow corrective action to be taken to alleviate exchange rate pressure in deficit countries. Now also used as an arbiter of world economic affairs.
