Volex Group Plc, the global electrical and electronic cable assemblies group, is delighted to announce that its chairman Mike McTighe won the Chairman of the Year award at the Grant Thornton Quoted Company Awards ceremony in London on 28th January.

The Grant Thornton Quoted Company Awards aim to recognise the achievements of some of the UK's smaller quoted companies. The Chairman of the Year category sets out to select the chairman whose strategic input, advice, contacts and market knowledge have identifiably improved the performance and position of the company; and to reward ventures whose level of corporate governance is exemplary and which communicate effectively and routinely with their shareholders/investors.

The panel of judges commented that "Mike's involvement with Volex Group has led to a great turnaround at the company; rebuilding its fundamentals and concentrating on profitability and cash generation amid difficult market conditions".

Mike McTighe commented "I am exceptionally pleased to receive this award in recognition of the progress that we have made so far at Volex since I took the Chairman's role in March 2008. I would like to extend my thanks to my fellow Board members and to all the team at Volex for their hard work and achievements. I look forward to continuing this journey and achieving further successes with Volex."
