AIS Distribution Agreement

17 Jan 2008 07:00

SOFTWARE RADIO TECHNOLOGY PLC AIS Distribution Agreement & Order Received

The Directors of Software Radio Technology plc ("SRT" or the "Company"), the AIM-quoted developer of digital wireless communications technology, are pleased to announce that it has signed an AIS OEM Distribution Agreement with Marine Electronics Systems Limited ("MES").

MES, which has already placed an initial order under the agreement, is a rapidly growing UK based distributor of marine electronics with a strong and growing sales network in the UK and Europe. Under the agreement SRT will provide MES with OEM AIS products for distribution and sale under the MES and Digital Yacht brands.

Nick Heyes, Managing Director of MES said: "We are very excited to have secured an OEM Distributor Agreement with SRT. The product they offer is of the highest quality and performance and therefore fits well with our brand and product portfolio. We have seen increasing demand across our sales networks and believe the AIS market offers us an opportunity to develop a new and significant revenue stream."

Neil Peniket, Managing Director of SRT Marine Technology Limited said: "MES is an established, fast growing marine electronics company and we are delighted to be working with them to maximise the AIS opportunity. There are over four million commercial and leisure vessels in Europe with approximately 700,000 of these in the UK. Therefore as awareness of AIS amongst mariners grows and high quality, low cost AIS products become more readily available, demand for AIS products is expected to grow strongly."

AIS systems facilitate accurate identification and location of maritime traffic providing considerable safety and security benefits to mariners and homeland security agencies such as the coastguard/life boat services.

The AIS market is developing rapidly and SRT continues to build its international network of partners, working as a long term technology provider and offering a range of solutions to suit the requirements of the partners. During 2007 SRT announced an agreement to supply the RNLI and the first national mandate for AIS was announced by Turkey requiring up to 35,000 vessels to be fitted with AIS. Further national mandates are expected to follow.
