SOFTWARE RADIO TECHNOLOGY PLC AIS CLASS B US FCC APPROVAL
The Directors of Software Radio Technology plc ("SRT" or the "Company") are pleased to announce that SRT's AIS Class B transceiver has received approval from the US Federal Communications Commission (the "FCC").
SRT launched its range of low cost AIS Class B products and obtained EU approval at the end of 2006. Having obtained US Coast Guard approval in February, FCC approval was the final step to enable the Company's transceivers and technology to be sold into the key US market.
SRT's solution is the only FCC and USCG approved AIS Class B technology in the world. The Company is working with a growing customer base of over 20 companies around the world which are seeking to sell AIS products based on SRT technology.
The US Homeland Security, Maritime Domain Awareness programme places AIS at its core with significant investment in infrastructure to support the use of AIS technology on vessels of all sizes. The US market is the world's largest marine market with over 12 million vessels.
Simon Tucker, SRT's Managing Director, said, "This is excellent news for our marine division and the timing is well ahead of expectations. Without FCC and USCG approval, our customers have been unable to leverage their US sales and distribution channels. As of today they can and with a potential market of 12 million vessels in the US, the potential is substantial."
