After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, Richard went to Montreal with KPMGwhere he specialised in retailing. Moving back to the UK after 5 years, hejoined J Sainsbury plc where he has remained for the last 27 years and held manysenior finance positions including Director of Business Development, Director ofCorporate Finance and Director of Audit & Risk. He was responsible for the launch of Sainsbury's Bank in 1997 and was DeputyChief Executive for 3 years. He was on the board of Shaw's Supermarkets in the US and JS Developments in theUK prior to their sale by Sainsbury's. He remains a trustee of their pensionfunds.
