Radstone Technology PLC31 January 2005 31 January 2005 Radstone Embedded Computing And Parker Hannifin Strategic Alliance Delivers First Product HRU-1000 liquid cooling efficiently, cost-effectively dissipates heat from high power chassis Continuing to broaden the scope of the COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) solutionsoffered to its customers, and further extending its existing range ofliquid-cooled ATR designs, Radstone Embedded Computing today announced at theBus & Board Show the first product to result from the company's strategicalliance with the Aerospace Group of Parker Hannifin, announced on 7th December2004. The HRU-1000 Heat Rejection Unit is specifically designed to support aliquid cooling infrastructure, and to address the growing requirement toefficiently and cost-effectively dissipate heat from increasingly powerfulembedded rugged systems. It combines a pump, heat exchanger and associatedcontrol systems in a single enclosure capable of dissipating 1 kWatt andenabling the deployment of a complete, self-contained liquid cooled subsystemthat includes an ATR enclosure and heat rejection unit. Both Radstone Embedded Computing and Parker Aerospace deliver solutions tointernational aerospace, defense and government customers. Radstone is theworld's leading independent supplier of rugged COTS, high-performance, embeddedcomputer products. Parker Hannifin is the world's leading diversifiedmanufacturer of motion and control technologies and systems. "Our customers very much want to develop high performance solutions based on thepowerful processors, graphics boards and communications interfaces that Radstoneoffers - but to do that, they need to be able to manage the heat that thosepowerful systems generate," said Colin Davies, Product Manager Systems atRadstone Embedded Computing. "As a result of our partnership with Parker, we'renow able to announce the HRU-1000 which is specifically designed to respond tothose customer needs. Not only is it highly effective at removing heat from achassis, but also it is compact, light weight, quiet, flexible, highly reliableand easy to use and maintain. We believe that our customers will respond verypositively to it, especially those whose solutions do not currently have aliquid cooling infrastructure" The HRU-1000 is packaged in a 1/2 ATRS enclosure and is capable of either freestanding installation or ARINC mounting. It is able to dissipate 1 kWatt ofheat, and meets MIL-STD-810 requirements. Internally, a digital systemcontroller monitors performance, manages pump and fan speed, and allows the user'set and forget' automatic operation. The controller also enables the HRU-1000to run at minimum speed, with minimum noise, until the thermal load requiresmore than minimum operation. Flexible hoses enable the HRU-1000 to be locatedremotely from the ATR chassis and, in combination, they can use Polyalphaolefin(PAO) and water/glycol coolants. "The HRU-1000 offers considerable benefits to customers in a broad range ofapplications where advanced heat dissipation is required," said Jeff O'Reilly,Business Development Manager, Parker Advanced Cooling Systems. "It is uniquelycompact and modular, and thus highly flexible, making it suitable for a varietyof platforms. Its rugged robustness is also a key attribute, and ease of usefeatures - such as 'no leak' liquid quick disconnects and a visual indication ofoperating hours and system health - mean that it can be easily installed andoperated. Most importantly, it allows customers to extract the best possibleperformance from their systems." The HRU-1000 will be available from Radstone in March 2005.
