Meridian Petroleum PLC18 October 2006 18 October 2006 Meridian Petroleum plc ("Meridian" or the "Company") Appointment of Angelo K. Baskaran, Chief Financial Officer Meridian Petroleum plc (AIM: MRP) the oil and gas exploration and productioncompany with assets in the United States and Australia, today announces thatAngelo K. Baskaran has been appointed to the Board of Directors as ChiefFinancial Officer with immediate effect. He replaces Peter Fleming, who hasleft the Company to pursue other activities. Mr. Baskaran has spent over 20 years in accounting and finance on aninternational basis specialising in fast growth companies both private andpublic. He has extensive experience in cross border mergers, acquisitions andcorporate finance. He is currently involved in structuring and raising privateequity and debt in relation to mid market companies in the United States as wellas managing The Iona Fund, which is a globally focused future and options basedhedge fund. Since 2001, Angelo has been the Director of Corporate Finance at LCL MerchantPartners, Inc. Previously he was executive vice president of MBf Asia CapitalCorporation based out of Hong Kong and a vice president of the New York basedprivate equity firm, The Chart Group LP. He started his career as a charteredaccountant with RSM Robson Rhodes in London. Mr. Baskaran holds a Masters Degree in Foreign Service from GeorgetownUniversity in Washington, DC, together with the Karl F. Landegger HonorsCertificate in International Business Diplomacy. He also holds an MBA in Financefrom the CASS Business School at The City University, London. He is a fullyqualified Chartered Accountant with Associate Membership of the Institute ofChartered Accountants in England & Wales. Mr. Baskaran has confirmed that there are no further disclosures required underSchedule 2 paragraph (g) of the AIM Rules, and that he has no shareholding inthe Company. Anthony J.
