Intertek Group PLC07 January 2008 Stock Exchange Release 7 January 2008, 7am London, UK Intertek acquires Electrical Mechanical Instrument Services (UK) Ltd Intertek Group plc (Intertek), the leading international provider of quality andsafety services to a wide range of industries, announces the acquisition ofElectrical Mechanical Instrument Services (UK) Ltd (EMIS), the operator of oiland gas industry calibration businesses in the UK, Qatar and the United ArabEmirates (UAE). Intertek purchased EMIS from its shareholder Joseph O'Neil for a cashconsideration of GBP0.9m. EMIS provides calibration services to the oil and gasindustries at off-shore and on-shore oil and gas fields and laboratory sites.Calibration, or the process of adjusting instruments to ensure the accuracy oftheir measurements and analysis, is critical in the oil and gas sector,particularly during exploration and production (E&P) stages to assess andanalyse flow and yield, and identification of hydrocarbons and raw products.EMIS' customers include E&P companies, major oil companies and related servicecustomers in the upstream sector. The acquisition will enable Intertek to increase the penetration of its existingcalibration and other upstream services to the industry, in Europe, and theMiddle East. EMIS has nineteen employees including those in the two joint-venture businesses in Qatar and the UAE. The acquisition will form part ofIntertek's Analytical Services division.
