Hunting PLC
("Hunting" or "the Company")
Trading Update
HuntingĀ PLCĀ (LSE:HTG)Ā today issues a trading update in advance of entering its close period.
Dennis Proctor, Hunting's Chief Executive, said:
"The Company anticipatesĀ aĀ tradingĀ performanceĀ for 2009Ā towardĀ the high end of market expectationsĀ despite recessionary global markets, volatile commodity prices andĀ depressedĀ drilling activity, primarily in natural gas. Trading in the Middle East andĀ SouthĀ East AsiaĀ has remainedĀ steadyĀ with contracts in these regions continuing into 2010. Elsewhere, inĀ CanadaĀ and theĀ United States, drilling and exploration for natural gas remainsĀ depressedĀ relative to prior year activity, with smaller operators continuingĀ to experience difficultyĀ inĀ obtaining adequate credit toĀ commenceĀ new projects.
The Well Construction and Completion DivisionsĀ areĀ bothĀ expected toĀ experience aĀ lower performance compared to last year,Ā whileĀ the newly createdĀ Well InterventionĀ DivisionĀ will see an improvementĀ as a result ofĀ acquisitions made during theĀ year. Exploration andĀ Production, due to commodity prices andĀ production, will report results well belowĀ theĀ prior year and Gibson Shipbrokers, withĀ lowĀ pricing in globalĀ shipping marketsĀ are also expected toĀ report results well downĀ on the prior year. Field Aviation is having an excellent year and should report results well ahead of those in 2008.
Ā
In addition toĀ the acquisitions of PTĀ SMBĀ IndustriĀ inĀ IndonesiaĀ and National Coupling Company inĀ HoustonĀ announced earlier in the year,Ā the acquisition of Welltonic completed onĀ 10Ā DecemberĀ 2009, will further strengthen the Group's Well Intervention operations. We continue to review potential acquisitions and hope to make further announcementsĀ when appropriate.
EarlyĀ sectorĀ forecastsĀ anticipateĀ an approximate 6% increase in exploration and production activitiesĀ duringĀ 2010. Much of this improvement is due to oil demand growth inĀ China,Ā IndiaĀ and other SouthĀ East AsianĀ countries,Ā while the rest of the world may see only modest,Ā if any,Ā growth. However, the acquisitions made in the secondĀ halfĀ ofĀ 2009 combined with completed capital projects shouldĀ positionĀ the CompanyĀ to take advantage of growth opportunities in 2010."
The full year results for 2009 will be reported onĀ ThursdayĀ 25 February 2010.
