Quartics and DDD expand license

Incorporates TriDef® 2d to 3D conversion into Qvu video processor platforms for HDTVs, PCs and other CE devices

Santa Monica, CA, November 8, 2010- DDD Group plc (LSE: DDD) and Quartics Inc., announce that they have signed a license agreement extending the terms of their earlier Implementation License Agreement announced in January this year. The license agreement enables Quartics to provide its customers with an active license of DDD's proprietary, and industry-leading, TriDef® 2D to 3D conversion algorithm when included with Quartics' Qvu video processing unit (VPU), extending the range of prospective customers beyond those who already have direct licenses with DDD.

The TriDef® 2D to 3D conversion algorithm provides customers the capability to automatically convert standard 2D video content into a 3D format compatible with the latest 3D HDTV products now becoming available in the market. When processed by the Qvu VPU, video signals can be further enhanced through SuperResolution scaling, bad light correction, color and contrast enhancement and other video post processing techniques to provide a superior quality 3D video experience.

Sherjil Ahmed, Quartics' CEO said:

"We have been working closely with the DDD team to integrate 2D to 3D conversion onto our Qvu VPU since late last year", said. "While our initial focus for 3D conversion has been next generation HDTV and set top box products, we see new applications in PCs and a variety of other consumer electronics (CE) devices emerging this year". He added, "When combined with DDD's 2D to 3D technology, our programmable Qvu VPU platform can be updated easily to new improved algorithms to provide a superior 3D video experience".

Chris Yewdall, DDD's CEO, said:

"We're pleased to have such a strong business and technical relationship with Quartics and expect to continue to collaborate with their engineering team to provide algorithm improvements. DDD is the industry leader in 2D to 3D conversion with over two million units already produced. The Quartics agreement aims to extend that leadership as Qvu customers integrate video post processing with 2D to 3D conversion into next generation CE products".

The agreement simplifies the procurement process for Quartics' customers needing 2D to 3D conversion by providing a "one stop shop" for its 3D solution. Quartics expects to begin shipping Qvu VPU products programmed with the TriDef® technology later this quarter. Royalties for the active licenses will be paid directly to DDD by Quartics.
