Metalcraft Contract Win

Avingtrans (AIM:AVG), the designer, manufacturer and supplier of critical components and associated services to the energy, medical, industrial and global aerospace sectors, is pleased to announce that its subsidiary Metalcraft, has received the first order for its new '3G' Melter Crucible from Sellafield.

The initial batch of 3 units will take around 12 months to complete, and forms part of the 3 year, £1.5 million framework agreement that Metalcraft has secured for the supply of its Melter Crucibles to Sellafield's Vitrification Plant1. The initial order includes dedicated tooling which is required to make the Crucibles to the exacting tolerances necessary for these safety critical items.

Commenting on the successful contract win, Peter Kenny Managing Director of Metalcraft, stated:

"We are delighted that Sellafield have selected Metalcraft again to develop this next generation Crucible. This maintains our position as a Tier 1 vendor to Sellafield and demonstrates that we have the necessary high quality manufacturing expertise to deliver this key element of the vitrification process. Metalcraft have successfully supported this programme at Sellafield for the last 15 years, having previously developed the Extended Life 'Thick Walled' Melter Crucible for Sellafield over 5 years ago. The team at Metalcraft has worked hard with the customer in Cumbria to bring this project together, and it is expected this new design will further improve the productivity of the process at Sellafield'.

1 The Vitrification Plant at Sellafield is used to mix high level nuclear waste with molten glass at temperatures in excess of 1000 °C. The Melter Crucible is at the heart of the system and performs the mixing of the highly active waste and glass frit to enable the encapsulation and safe storage.
