Sampo / Miscellaneous 10.02.2009 08:20 Dissemination of a UK Regulatory Announcement, transmitted byDGAP - a company of EquityStory AG.The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement.--------------------------------------------------------------------------- SAMPO PLC STOCK EXCHANGE RELEASE 10 February 2009 at 9.20 am SAMPO HAS COMMITTED TO APPROXIMATELY 25 PERCENT OF NORDEA'S 2.5 BILLION EURO RIGHTS ISSUE Sampo Group ('Sampo') has committed to take up the rights corresponding to its current pro rata shareholding of approximately 12 percent in relation to the EUR2.5 billion (net) capital raising by Nordea Bank AB (publ) ('Nordea'). This equates to a commitment of approximately EUR 315 million. Sampo has also entered into an agreement, whereby it has committed to underwritean additional 13 percent of the rights issue corresponding to EUR 334 million. This commitment will lead to Sampo acquiring additional shares, only if the shares offered in the rights issue are not fully subscribed. The issue of shares not being subscribed by the three largest shareholders is fully underwritten, subject to customary terms and conditions, by J.P. Morgan Securities Ltd. and Merrill Lynch International. Sampo will publish full-year 2008 results and Board's dividend proposal for 2008tomorrow.
