Penguins,
You are wasting your time discrediting Adrians posts, as you are starting from the incorrect assumption that his posts have credibility in the first place.
After all, anyone that ignores simple facts and regards David Icke as a reliable source is not playing with a full deck...
Rough had to be closed as it was already operating 5 years beyond it's design life and had serious safety & technical issues that needed addressing.
To do that, the entire 8A complex would have had to have it's wells P&A'd and the platforms removed.
On the other platform complex, BD needed substantial refurbishment and upgrading, whilst BP would essentially have to be replaced - in part because of the damage caused by the explosion & fire in 2006. CD would have also needed refurbishing, but not to the same extent as it was just a wellhead platform.
Virtually all the wells had serious integrity issues by that time and would have needed to be P&A'd and replacements drilled.
Overall, expenditure of c. £1 Billion and about two years shut down would have been needed to do all the work required to bring it up to current operating standards and redrill most of the wells.
Politically this was simply not possible for any Govt to do, as the eco-warriors would have been out in force screaming about "fossil fuel subsidies".
Rough only stored about 10 days worth of gas at it's peak, so it would have made no difference to the current gas price crisis, as those Countries in Europe who have more storage are finding out.
Hmmm, if taking money from Russian Oligarchs (many of whom are here under the 'golden visa' system introduced by Labour in 2008 and are here because if they went back to Russia, they'd be imprisoned or worse) is such a crime, I wonder what description could be used of those LibDem & Labour MP's (including the LibDem leader) who took money from a Chinese Spy?
Oh, BTW, the Energy Secretary who approved the BP/Rosneft deal?
One Sir Edward Davey, current Leader of the Lib Dems.
