30% is the normal figure but it’s not to force any takeover lol it’s if he chooses the figure where he can make a bid… but realistically you can make a bid whenever you want if you have enough capital to turn shareholders heads.

He’s not a board member though so he could buy stock whenever he wanted up to and including today.

FWIW… I’m starting to think that Drahi saw the opportunity to get into Openreach via the earlier statement that they were looking for a partner to fund the last of the FTTP roll out at around £3B. He could raise that. I really doubt he could fund a circa £30-40B takeover of BTgroup as it would be too indebted especially given the copper to fibre transition.

BT have now stated OR will go it alone. Had Altice become the partner then no doubt Drahi with his 12% would have looked for a position in the OR board. Now that won’t happen. I think he might now become a passive investor as the outlook in the next few years on his investment looks rosy regardless.

Virgin refuse to admit the issues publicly but my neighbours have moved to BT because of this very thing. Their devices especially smart TVs were being remotely tampered with my elderly neighbour seriously thought he had a ghost changing channels lol

Booboobooboo, from what I’ve been told VM02 are currently only targeting areas that already have underground structure direct to customers premises like new build estates. These are easy for them to install as Openreach already serve those customers via fibre/copper.

The areas that they are currently not targeting are the overhead areas served by poles and overhead fibre to the premise. Openreach of course are installing on both medium.

It seems the 3 biggest providers have signed up to equinox along with others. BT SKY TalkTalk I presume. So the article about Sky switching to V was indeed just a rehash of a story from 2 years ago to rattle shareholders.

BT sport probably have advertising and pundit contracts until the end of the season and it makes sense to give DAZN time to get their stuff set up plus deal with moving customers to their platform as well imo..

Agree Tony, they might outline further cuts that the market will now believe and take into account on the back of the £1 billion already and as someone mentioned earlier poss bbkkbb that billion basically means another billion profit.. another £2-3 in the next few years and as fleccy says the profits won’t necessarily grow from revenue but from cuts.

Lockdown and different ways of working at BT will have given them an idea of who is and isn’t required.

Tbf we didn’t know he’d got 10% until he did and no one seems to know how lol….

On another note, the most logical buy out of BT would be by Comcast. They paid circa £30bn for SKY… They could easily fund a takeover then have control over the FTTP network requirements to service their customers. Food for thought. Bidding war commences lol Happy Xmas holders.

Think you’re right Larry… the sp of DT shares was about £4.50 at the time of the EE deal… also Nige I’m long on this and think that BT in 4 or 5 years could be back to the heady heights of 1999 and £15…

I might sound pessimistic on a Drahi deal only because I think we could be much much higher in a few years than we ever thought possible.

Well he’ll need to hoover up another 18% first. Trading volumes have been in the gutter for months so difficult to see him hit the magic 30% unless he buys DT shares and they will want a good return on their 12% so £3-4 billion probably. Then yes a bid will go in and the SP will open and PIs will take the money and run if they are allowed out. Suspension first and a failed bid and it’s then a disaster for Drahi and us.

If he made a bid he’d have to be over 30% I presume. Once the bid is offered then no doubt Whitehall and Parliament would get involved especially if BT deemed it hostile.

Be prepared for your investment to be suspended indefinitely pending an outcome and possible appeal by both sides.

Imo a bid won’t happen any time soon but of course that’s just my opinion. Pension deficit, debt, national security as well as Drahi’s ties to Israel won’t be easy to navigate. As takeovers go this one would be harder to pull off than any before.

Throw in the cost then it’s unviable. The crown won’t want their guarantee having to come into effect any time soon.

Then throw in that it is BT funding the FTTP build, where would an independent Openreach find the £15 billion required as the new owner would no doubt already be borrowing the circa £5 billion to buy it.

Possibly Larry, but transferring the assets to Openreach will be a long and messy process. All the millions of land leases, covenants and wayleaves will need reassigning and possibly renegotiated and that’s just for the physical external network. That was the reason OFCOM decided not to wholly split OR from BT.

Applying that kind of distraction to BT right now during the most transformational point of its history and potentially damaging the FTTP build in its entirety will only benefit the altnets.

Right now BT needs stability to get the company to the next level.

Openreach as a stand alone network and broadband provider would be even more regulated than it is now and imagine if BT decided to use VM02 as their carrier in retaliation then the business would probably collapse, mind you most hedge fund takeovers end in disaster.

Drahi has made clear in conversations with industry insiders that he wants to own BT, particularly its Openreach broadband subsidiary.

Once again… Openreach ISN’T a broadband subsidiary. It owns NO network assets.

If Drahi actually thought that it did and made his decision to take a large stake in BT because of that, then he isn’t as clever many think he is.
