Ok so my perspective on the visit to ITM Power's facility solidified a highly positive impression of the company's operations, management, and future prospects. The decision to invite investors inside was a telling display of management's confidence, which was well-founded. The entire operation is meticulously considered, highly professional, and truly state-of-the-art! The factory floor was immaculate, showcasing a deep level of planning and active expansion. The streamlined production process and advanced R&D areas demonstrated a proactive, scientific approach from start to finish. This was further evidenced by a palpable air of excitement and engagement among the employees!
Of particular note, a significant portion of the costs of an electrolyser stack comes from the utilisation of rare-earth materials. ITM has not only reduced the use of these materials in its stacks (in November 2024, ITM announced a further 40% reduction in iridium loading), but it has also developed in-house processes to recycle such materials. This means the most expensive components are reusable, dramatically lowering future production costs and boosting future cash flow and profitability. Essentially, a sold system generates value long after its initial sale; critically, this means that the bottom line increases whilst simultaneously being able to offer cheaper units to clients. A win-win scenario. Dennis was notably eager to tackle difficult questions, revealing a leader who is both deeply experienced and relentlessly driven which also was reflected across the entire team. He expressed some notable frustration with the share price disconnect ( this man is conservative ) the market is failing to price in these fundamental cost advantages and the bigger picture!!
My concerns about Chinese and other competitors were largely alleviated. ITM may not capture all market share, but they are exceptionally well-positioned to secure a substantial portion by delivering quality, cost-effective products that are simply unmatchable under their model ( and future ones ) Importantly, Dennis's focus on cost-saving directly benefits clients, making the units more affordable and accelerating adoption. Beyond the investment case, ITM represents exactly what the UK and Europe need.. a path to energy security.
In Summary, I walked away feeling this is not a company to be shorting. The combination of technological innovation, a revolutionary cost-reduction model, and driven leadership creates a formidable package indeed. From the exciting hints about Cronos to the tangible evidence of a refined, revolutionary operation, ITM Power is a company that deserves celebration and support, It feels capable of delivering on its promises and is a strategic asset for the nation and Europe. Feel much more confident and excited now to be invested, and looking forward to news to come.
