Never rely on one measure in isolation is the simple answer but never dismiss a measure either. To ignore cash generation in favour of a non cash measure would be equally as bad.

PeePer - No one is expecting to turn a statutory profit anytime soon because of the amount of capital investment that has to pass through the P&L while the back to growth strategy beds in. This is why EBITDA (ie cash generation from the core business) is the metric everyone is looking out for.

It’s interesting if you look at non-store retailing from the ONs report since the bottom of the fall in dec 22 the index value was 107.8 and is now 116.7 which is an increase of 8.25% YTD.

Store clothing sales in Dec 22 was 101.3 and is now 97.4 a decrease of 3.85%

What they don’t give you is the online retailing segmented down so you cannot compare apples with apples.
