RE: Why we need Labour in Power30 Mar 2023 19:46
Britain could have done well under Corbyn!
The smear campaign was not only by the Tories but by the so-called centrists within the Labour Party. Starmer and Thomas-Symonds were the incognito assailants who have now made Labour Tory-lite. Corbyn was not against investing in defence! He just didn't see nuclear arms as usable, he was correct. Investing in non-nuclear weapons was his preferred choice.
I would like to see a coalition between Labour and The Green Party.
Only a strong Green Party can do the necessary thing that we might not entirely like but never the less must be done.
The Greens can also reform Labour and root out many of the centrists (who are really Tories).
There are several convincing reasons why Britain needs to scale up green technologies and why it's lagging behind the rest of Europe in terms of renewable energy and sustainability efforts:
Climate Change: Climate change is a global challenge that requires urgent action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate its effects. The UK has committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, and scaling up green technologies is essential to achieve this goal.
Economic Benefits: The green economy is one of the fastest-growing sectors globally and presents significant opportunities for job creation, innovation, and economic growth. Scaling up green technologies in the UK could lead to increased investment, job creation, and economic growth.
Energy Security: The UK is heavily reliant on fossil fuels, which are finite resources and subject to price fluctuations and supply disruptions. Scaling up green technologies such as wind, solar, and tidal energy could help to diversify the UK's energy mix and enhance energy security.
Environmental Protection: The UK is home to a diverse range of ecosystems and wildlife, which are under threat from climate change and environmental degradation. Scaling up green technologies could help to reduce carbon emissions, preserve natural habitats, and protect wildlife.
International Obligations: The UK is a signatory to the Paris Agreement, which commits countries to limit global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels. Scaling up green technologies is essential to meeting this commitment and fulfilling the UK's international obligations.
One reason why the UK is lagging behind the rest of Europe in terms of green technologies is due to a lack of policy certainty and investment. The UK has undergone several changes in energy policy and subsidy regimes in recent years, which has led to uncertainty for investors and delayed the deployment of renewable energy technologies. Additionally, the UK has historically relied heavily on fossil fuels for energy generation, which has made it harder to transition to renewable energy sources. However, with renewed political commitments to achieving net-zero carbon emissions and increased investment in renewable energy technologies, the UK has the pote
