The China Electric Power Equipment and Technology Coordinators (China Electric Power Equipment and Technology) have met with Energy Minister Dr Medard Kalemani to express their commitment to investing in electrical transport infrastructure in the country.
The meeting of the Executive Ministers and the Energy Minister was held at the Ministry of Energy Office in Dar es Salaam where the company's mission was headed by Vice-President, Jiang Longhua.
Longhua explained that the company has submitted an application for constructing electrical transport (kV 400) from Chalinze Coast to Dodoma for a distance of 342 kilometers and said that if they were assigned to work they would finish construction within 18 months.
He added that the company has also submitted an application to the Tanzania Electricity Agency (TANESCO) to construct electrical transport infrastructure (kV 400) from Mbeya-Tunduma-Sumbawanga-Mpanda to Kigoma for more than 500 miles [500 km] away.
"If we get this job, we will spend within 22 months just as we have the experience of building this infrastructure in various parts of the world and in the continent of Africa we have built this infrastructure in Ethiopia, where we have implemented a 1200-mile [1200 km] project that we completed within the years just two, "said Longhua. On the other hand, the Energy Minister thanked the company for demonstrating the intention of developing electricity projects in the country and urging them to continue doing so due to the demand for electricity in the country to continue to grow.
In addition to the application for the construction of various electrical infrastructures that the company has submitted to TANESCO, many companies have emerged in order to obtain the consent to build relevant infrastructure but the Government will work for a company that will meet the criteria set out.
