Is this buyback what they were going to announce in April, bought forward because of not getting the sale? Or is something more still to come?

I guess each broker is entitled to a share of the excess based on the total of their clients positions, so ideally you'd want to be with a broker whose clients are asleep, or with one which makes the process difficult. I'm only guessing/ trying to make sense of it.

People who would otherwise have averaged down are oversubscribing instead. The amount of money being kept out of the SP by the oo is a multiple of the eventual value of the oo. They do need replacing quite frequently if they're not looked after. They have to be cleaned properly after each use to stop them getting choked with set concrete. It's a serious enough problem to prevent companies from being willing to hire them out

Of course Britain could block it, they helped topple Bolivia's government over lithium just a few years back. But they don't want to. I've been wondering about sanctions but I think they'd target something less impactful and something directly linked to either weapons or right wing politicians. They don't want to send the message that they're against Israeli civilians. So far sanctions have been highly targeted against individuals in the media. Restrictions on weapons have been inconsequential and for were done just for show. Britain still exports the same parts just via third countries. There may be a question about whether the US wants Israel to get access to non middle eastern oil as that might be perceived as reducing its incentive to control the region. It sounds implausible but remember they weren't keen on Germany's Nordstrom. On balance I think we're probably safe. Maybe we'll even benefit from a weakened shekel making sales of dollar denominated oil more appealing

I think they have this number anyway for securities lending. They're not going to look at each nominee account individually to see what they can lend out from it to someone who happens to want that exact number of shares. They're going aggregate everything into one set of shares that the whole bank has available
