I have thought for a while that PAF is vulnerable le to a take-over from one of the big boys. There is some manipulation going on here. Got to be worth a minimum of 50p a share, I would think.

But not Marshall Wace! Wonder how they are doing with their short position? Looks like 33p was the bottom and we are now moving forward again. The end of the hedge helps.

Mulder - When you say "PAF have been informed, as well as the FCA", what do you mean? Short selling is not illegal. The daily fallback is, of course, disappointing.

Patryk221 - Agreed, unless they know something we don't know.

Looks like they have a short position of 0.50% as from 21/02.

I expect things to improve once the hedge finishes at the end of this month and the company starts to sell gold at the spot price.

Mulder - yes, I wonder about a possible takeover here. Cobus has 7.5m shares. I'm sure he could have quite a good life in retirement on the proceeds if he so wished!

Eish - what info do you have about pilfering at Barberton? I haven't read anything about this.

I also wonder about the possibility of a take-over bid. Over the past couple of years, several miners have been bought out by the big boys.

I agree. Once news broke about the effects of the hedge, I expected some short-term turbulence. But I aim to hold these for another six months at a minimum. I don't think we are going anywhere in the short term, but would estimate somewhere around 45p in six months, all things being equal!

Yes, the mention of an interim dividend was interesting. Hopefully, the market will like that.

I'm talkiing about the last few days and the recent fallback for goodness sake! I have made my feelings very clear about the medium to longterm prospects! LOL

Yes, I agree. I'm not expecting great things tomorrow. I must admit that I didn't understand the dramatic effect the hedge would have on profits. I am hoping for a bit of a recovery in early March when they start selling gold at the spot price. But I am really looking ahead to the full-year figures in six months. I can't see the sp then being in the doldrums (like now).

That's very true. But only an idiot pays CGT if there are ways to avoid it legitimately, or at least minimise it!

I should add that I am close to the CGT limit for this tax year on disposals outside my ISA.

It's simply a case of managing my options. Looking to the future, I think that PAF is a great investment. But in the short-term, it may have further to fall. So I am content to wait for a few weeks before I buy again without CGT complications. If I still had space in my ISA, I would probably buy now - but in a few weeks, I will have another £20k allowance to play with.
