Captain,no not ideal,but when is it ever ideal in the oil industry? So even if Brockham was being flow tested now they would still have had to complete the work at Balcombe with another set of kit by the end of March. Approximately 6 weeks to the end of March and quite possible that all permissions and kit will be available with a seamless return to Brockham and 2 years to flow test. From where Angus are at the moment this is sensible use of resources.

Work they've "invented"! they can't submit a FDP and advance the production process without doing this work. So makes perfect sense to do it now before planning permission runs out at the end of March.

Agreed more hoops to jump through,but at Angus we know how costly that can be in time delays.

In granting the EA permit to Cuadrilla this statement is included at the end.
THE PERMIT
At the end of the radioactive substance activities,the Permit can be surrendered by the operator. At that time the Operator would need to satisfy the EA that there is no continuing risk of pollution from the radioactive substances activities and that the site has been returned to a satisfactory state.
So the permit is the permit until surrendered by the operator for the duration of testing and production so long as the operator adheres to agreed methods of contamination control. I can find no information on the operator having to return to the EA for further permissions, perhaps you could point me to the relevant information?

Pboo,I would think that is covered in their application to the OGA,by the way why did you say that they needed an EA permit yesterday?

Angus will return to Balcombe to complete the EWT (and put in larger production pipe?)before the 6 month time limit expires and then return to Brockham with permissions now in place and isolate the water ingress and continue the EWT. So by early April we should have reliable initial flow rates for both wells,more than happy to be proved wrong but what do others think.

JimiHendrix,an EWT is any period of time over 96 hours.

Pboo,they already have EA permit why would they need another one? statutory 21days notice to HSE served, WSCC for flow testing permitted and application to OGA in for what is really a completion of what was left unfinished by the 7 day flow test problems. Everything that was permitted before remains the same.

It seems to me that they will go to Balcombe first and clean out the remaining fluids lost to the fractures, conduct a ewt for sustainable flows before submitting a FDP. They can then return to Brockham with all new permissions in place and plug the water ingress and continue with the ewt at Brockham. Beats twiddling your thumbs.
