The latest Investing Matters Podcast with Jean Roche, Co-Manager of Schroder UK Mid Cap Investment Trust has just been released. Listen here.
I don't think the market is going to like this...!
Thank you both Rod & Mark.
Much obliged!
Question for you all:
As it's ex divi day, does your holding count at open or close to qualify for the divi?
(already a LTH'er but I've been busier than anticipated recently and forgot to top up!)
I hope you're right! I got burned last July and so being particularly cautious this year!
Here's hoping we're onwards & updwards.
Happy Friday all & goodluck England!!
Have I missed anything obvious as to why we've gone 5% up today?
Gladstone clearly changed their mind based upon G.S recent re-rate!:
Fund % short change Date changed
Gladstone Capital Management LLP 0.66% -0.05% 25 May 2021
Can't seem to delete or edit my previous post but it was posted prematurely!
Looks like Gladstone did increase their short on Friday as I suspected given the large sell after hours!
Fund:
Gladstone Capital Management LLP 0.71% 0.07% 21 May 2021
@oculusprime - Would seem that way, wouldn't it? There's definitely been one hell of a short position taken out there!
Wonder whether ShortTracker will give us any indication when it's updated?
Can I ask what site you're all using to track shorts, please?
I can't seem to get anything out of ShortTracker!!
TIA
Although I agree the re-invested Divi's would/should stimulate the SP
I was of the impression it was to stop people simply buying in the day before it becomes ex-divi to make an instant profit overnight, so the market naturally factors this into the SP. Whether this would have happened today or 15th March I'm not sure.
Reference - I'm studying towards the CII's Diploma In Regulated Financial Planning & have recently passed the R02 module - Investment principles & risk, of which this is tested. Having said that, I could be completely wrong and making it up!! But I'm sure I'm not...!
Isn't it normal for any share to decrease in value following a dividend payment...?
@roddw1 - Ah, I see. We actually call it Bed & ISA but the principle is very similar. Sell down in the GIA before the end of the TY, move cash into the ISA & rebuy in the new TY, thus utilising the capital gains allowance before the end of the TY. The term B&B may not be used anymore because HMRC don't recognise the disposal for CGT if the re-purchase is made within 30days. Maybe that's where the confusion is?
@roddw1 - What makes you think B&B is no longer allowed? I work for a Chartered IFA Firm & have spent most of last week doing exactly this...?
Chri55, I would assume the main reason for the dropback is due to not needing to be invested until late March which gives MM's a last chance to wring the towel out before they come piling back in to secure the dividend in April.
Although I thought the results were pretty good, the market clearly isn't excusing the fact there was a near £3bn write off, combined with declining revenue (albeit was inline with MCRO's expectations & In very unprecedented times!) & day traders taking profits.
This share doesn't half confuse me though. It always goes against the fundamentals. Market goes up, MCRO goes down & vice versa!!
How we can go from being on the FTSE 250 top risers yesterday and today on the top fallers...?! All logic gets thrown out the window when investing with MCRO!!
Mark, I gave up using ADVFN on the lead up to Nov's update. I had a ponder last week & couldn't believe the level of pettiness & childish behavior. Half the discussion content is completely off topic & full of numpties with nothing better to do with their days.
LSE for me all day every day. All the tools I need at my fingertips & the maturity of the members (& their respective knowledge!) are far more worth my time IMO.
P.s - Where did you get your hands on the results so early? I was on here & MCRO's Investor Relations Download page at 07:00 on the dot. You'd already posted messages on here before I'd seen it was available!! How?!
Happy results day all. This will pull like a train & there'll be no stopping it! Get out of the way Shorters or you'll get knocked over!!
Thanks Lee & Tiger. Certainly makes more sense! I thought I was somewhat aufait with 'trading' but clearly I should stick to long term investing!
Hi all, hope you're all well & looking forward to next week?!
I have a question I'm hoping some of the more experienced users might be able to help me with if possible, please?
If the trading volumes sold are more than the volume bought, why/how does the SP rise (looking at todays trading figures for reference) & vice versa? Surely if more shares are sold the price would decrease?
Anyway, I'm a LTH'er & very much looking forward to seeing where MCRO is heading moving forwards.
All the best & thanks
