US STOCKS SNAPSHOT-Wall Street soars 7% on hopes of slowing coronavirus deaths

NEW YORK, April 6 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks rocketed higher on
Monday, with each of the major indexes rallying about 7%, after
a fall in the daily death toll in New York, the country's
biggest coronavirus hot spot, fueled optimism a leveling off of
the pandemic was on the horizon.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1,627.46
points, or 7.73%, to 22,679.99, the S&P 500 gained 175.03
points, or 7.03%, to 2,663.68 and the Nasdaq Composite
added 540.16 points, or 7.33%, to 7,913.24.

TOP NEWS: Saudi Arabia's Wealth Fund Takes 8.2% Stake In Carnival

(Alliance News) -Â Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund has taken a sizeable stake in Carnival PLC, a US regulatory filing showed on Monday.

The Public Investment Fund - the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia - now holds a 8.2% stake in cruise operator Carnival, or 43.5 million shares.

The date of the event which triggered the regulatory filing was denoted as March 26, meaning the fund's stake exceeded 5% on this date.

Carnival has been hit hard by the global Covid-19 pandemic, with port restrictions around the world forcing the company to halt cruise operations and offer refunds to customers.

Carnival shares closed up 16% at 716.00 pence in London on Monday, though the stock remains down 80% in the year-to-date. In New York, the stock was up 21% at USD10.28 on Monday.

production, pushed back a planned meeting of the Organization of
the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies, a group known
as OPEC+, until Thursday.

Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN), the insurance group, led the risers with a 18% leap to 188p after it confirmed on Friday it would pay the final dividend recommended in respect of 2019.

A four-year-old female Malayan tiger at the Bronx Zoo has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The tiger, named Nadia, is believed to be the first known case of an animal infected with Covid-19 in the US.

The Bronx Zoo, in New York City, says the test result was confirmed by the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Iowa.

Nadia, along with six other big cats, is thought to have been infected by an asymptomatic zoo keeper.

Investing.com - President Donald Trump has done his bit for oil and OPEC has no intention of letting the opportunity slip by.

Crude prices rose as much as 10% on Friday as jawboning by OPEC members speaking anonymously to the media helped to add to the previous session’s gain of more than 25%. Thursday’s rally came on the back of Trump’s tweets that he had brokered a deal for Saudi Arabia, Russia and other oil producers to cut between 10 million and 15 million barrels of supply from daily world output.

The Kremlin said on Friday that Putin will meet Russian oil industry executives and officials today to discuss the situation on the world energy markets.

West Texas Intermediate, the New York-traded benchmark for U.S. crude, was up $1.72, or 6.8%, at $27.04 per barrel by 1:23 AM ET (17:23 GMT), after Thursday’s $5 gain. The session high was $28.55. Just on Monday, WTI hit 18-year lows of $19.27.

Brent, the London-traded global benchmark for crude, was up $2.78, or 10%, at $32.72 per barrel. Brent settled up 21% in the previous session.
