The Minister for Trade can put a company into liquidation, for example if it cannot pay bond holders (for whatever reason, sanctions included). It may be the government plan to do that as a way to solve "the Evraz problem" (political)

Liquidation does NOT mean that the company is worthless. Liquidation means the assets are distributed to the shareholders after paying off the bond holders. The problem would be that the assets are frozen, so they could conceivably just sit with the liquidator forever. However I thin the US and Canadians would not like that - they want their side of the business to be "normal". So the government could give a licence to the liquidator to distribute the assets, probably not to the oligarchs however.

The company could challenge all this in court if it came to it. Although it is hampered by lack of UK legal representation (again because of sanctions). Nonetheless I am sure there is a way for that to be done should it be necessary

Free cashflow from operations was roughly £90m last year. Let's assume a reasonably modest multiple for valuation is 8. Let's be negative/ realisitc, and assume there will be nil net growth in the retail businesses over the next 8 years due to recession (followed by recovery). Let's also ignore any potential of Ingenuity. On that very modest outlook, you still get a valuation of £720m. With issued shares of 1.2bn, that is a "minimum" valuation of 60p. I do not see any reason for it going down to zero (ie going bust).

The company needs to evidence positive cashflow - at the current copper price. If it requires record copper prices for the company to be cashflow positive, it's a rubbish business. Record copper prices should equal bumper cash, not breakeven, Let's see what they can come up with for H1 2022.

Well what they need to do is be clear that they are working towards profitability, with forecasts. Valuing a loss making company is always more difficult that a profitable one. While forecasts dont equal actual profits, it would help to reduce the share volatility if it was clear the company has a handle on costs, and understands the receenvironment is not about double digit growth, but being efficient. THG are well placed to be profitable, but until that is p[roven the share price will be up and down like Boris Johnson's career

China is one of the major copper producers. One possibility you've not included is that China invades Taiwan. In that case all bets are off in terms of what will happen, but the price of copper would likely increase substantially. It is a time of upheaval and copper from Canada - being a "friendly" country to the West - would be sought after. Of course China might not invade Taiwan, but also it might... Therefore there is likely anyway to be a switch in commodities markets towards sourcing alternative suppliers of copper, such as RMM. They are also likely to attract new investors to maximise the mine's potential.

Commodity prices will dip in a recession. They always do. They go up, cause the recession, then go down because of the recession. Then things stabilise again. Its like a dog chasing its tail! Long term copper is an excellent bet and so might Rambler be. I don't know about £1 either, but 60p seems likely

I think their airport stands were quite glamorous, and an inspired location. Everyone is in a dreamy mood when flying out on their hols. While I applaud the move online, I am not sure losing the airport stands was a good idea. The airport stands would still be good marketing.

I am not sure how far they can grow. However they are financially run very conservatively, and share price currently undervalued based on fundamentals. The obvious thing would be for a bigger player to take them over, to leverage the business.

The UK has laws that allow the proceeds of crime to be confiscated. However HMG have insufficient evidence that, for example in the case of Evraz, that RA has committed a crime. I also do not know if "proceeds of crime" refers to a crime committed specifically in the UK. To confiscate assets of oligarchs will require new legislation. It would be a dangerous path to have legislation that allows confiscation of assets where there is merely an assumption of crime. I can only see this on the context of a wartime bill that automatically allows confiscation assets of anyone with the nationality of the country we are at war with. However this wasn't even done in world war 2 in respect of Germans with British assets. And we aren't even officially at war with Russia.

If sanctioning Evraz in the UK doesnt have much practical effect to the group worldwide, that might be news you'd want to hear to calm your nerves, but it might not be the wisest news to provide. It would only encourage more wrath from HMG

You still own the underlying assets. The North American operations are completely safe and they will be worth something. The Russian assets may struggle to make and receive payments and making debt payments may be a problem. In that case liquidating the company may be one route. Possibly insert a new holding company in a friendly jurisdiction between plc and the Russian opposition and liquidate plc. Lawyers will be working on it.

Also Evraz can get judicial review of the sanctions.

It may be possible to insert another holding copmmany located somewhere friendly between PLC and the Opcos, and then liquidate PLC. We end up with shares in the new Holdco. They are working on that sort of thing hopefully.

Oh I dont know. Try Peleton - down 90% and still falling. RMM has good potential; a mine that has resource which is currently trading at a high price, and a regional government that regards the company as important to the local economy. Now it is down to whether the company is back into profitability.

I agree sanctioning the UK company makes no sense from the perspective of damaging Putin. I can only suspect the sanctioning is to eventually force PLC into liquidation, eg it cannot get an audit, which is a company law requirement. Or it can't pay the bond holders. That would be a political victory in Truss' strange little brain.
