It should not be left to the farmer, or in other cases to the landlord. If somebody is occupying something that does not belong to them, and refuses to move, Trespass should be a civil offence not a private matter . If somebody is caught shop-lifting in a super market, even if only a tin of beans, then the law would arrive. Yet, the cost to a farmer, or or landlord who stands to lose (especially landlords) thousands, and then clean up fees, afterwards, is regarded as something between the owner and the trespasser . We expect the law to protect us , that is what it is for
