There's no point in studying the daily trades...the numbers are no indication of anything in particular imo. What will count are the numbers of £s hitting the CC accounts, the unfolding political situation could cause a brilliant buying opportunity, long term...If we don't get closure soon, in which way the country's heading and who's in charge, the uncertainty will have a bigger effect on share prices than anything else......unless CC discover the biggest Gas field in Cambridge, and get to supply the meters as well.

I've been waiting eight years for CC to make some money in China. I thought it would be lighting ( like Itron).
It was a good surprise to see it was from China....as I'd sort of given up hope . But there's obviously a need for CC solution with one of the big two, maybe both.. As LT mentioned earlier there's only two main players in Chine - the State Grid Corporation of China and China Southern Power Grid Company.

This contract is with just one manufacturer.....it will be interesting to see how this plays out...will this be an orphan order or will other Chinese meter manufacturers take note, compete ( do China have competitive tendering?) for business from the two Chinese state Energy company's.....there must be a hell of a lot of meter manufacturers in China.....if the CC technology is required in any serious quantity...one manufacturer is not going to do it.

I do hope you are correct Tony. The business end and contracts should come before the actual rollout...so I would expect that it would be news worthy and announced...preferably soon. Gl Vas

This out today which sort of agree with my earlier comments that the meters roll will be probably be a no effectve way of saving people like us money....but will save the utilitys plenty of money as they get the rewards and all the costs are passed on to us..but, it's needed longer term to transform how we view and use energy in the future. .but hey, who cares as long as they buy what we have to offer...

Have a read here ...future of energy management UK..next 10 15 years ....that's why I suggested that the new smart meters that will be rolled out next years is just the beginning of a revolution but at present the new meters will be slightly redundant until the adption of the renewable energy revolution takes off....I imagine everything I consume and everything I produce energy wise will eventually be recorded by the smart meters...

Tony. What about graveyards. There's plenty of them, it's dead space, they don't need the sun, and no one is likely to complain...and it's a bit like the residents are paying back the energy they used when they were alive.....just a thought.

HI Tony. I'm just reading various techy blogs ....and it does seem that to get around the old meters not being interoperable with other energy suppliers ...then they will replace the number
In old meter, via a software update and replace it with the DCC number so everything will go via DCC and customers can then move energy supplier via DCC....simple. apparantly sm2 will provide better security as well, so it will have a padlock.
All this so we can keep tabs on the how much energy our freezers consume, seems unlikely. This is just the begining of a total overhall of the country's energy systems. ..in the future I will be able to get an increased income from the solar panel that I buy my wife for Christmas. ...the hard part is getting her to stand outside in the house, in the road facing the sun for ten ours a day...in winter it will have to be the kids on the "fun" wheel that I'll construct in my back yard. The goverment will change the law and bring back child labour....imagine how much energy a 1000 pupil school could generate at playtime, or how much a big hospital could make easily from all those patients confined to beds....just wheel the beds out into the car park, put a solar panel on top and a meter. ..once they've paid for their Meds...wheel them back inside...just a thought really.

homeless , parked cars, dog and dog walkers, tube station staff...the posabilitys are endless ..everyone can contribute...note: I didnt mention retired people as I'm out numbered here, I think..?

Some people thinks the ultimate aim is to increase security st to enable / encourage peer to peer selling of renewable energy between domestic users / producers so to unravel the centralised electricity market. ...so in theory we can all become energy producers as well as consumers...therefore it's the interoperability and security driving the upgrade....I'm not longer term. if I had a bigger garden ....I could sell my excess energy generated by my kids in the big woodern wheel i made ..to my local community energy hub, via the DCC and buy my neighbours energy....I need to think of a catchy name for my new energy company...I'm not sure farmers will be so interested in growing wonky carrots anymore. Shame really..

Wizzsrdty involved in converting a smets1 meter to the new sm2 meters, just involves changing the telephone number on the old meter from the present day supplier to the DCC via a automatice software update. This will enable all the old meter to switch suppliers....but i thought there was more to a smet2 meter than just that. ...

If you read this there is a link to CEA in this guys text. Look at latest news and CEA have an August 18 draft of their new smart meter communication specifications which covers all types ...not sure what the changes are as don't really understand it ...but interesting at this late stage their still bringing out drafts of communication specifications for smart meters in India ...including Sattelite communication in hard to reach places. Philips licensing their smart solution. Does anyone know who partnered with the Philips RF lighting solution....as a few years ago Cyan had some relationship with a Phillips ballast.

Interesting approach..led by a government owned utility. Encourage utility's to set up there own smart meter manufacturing businesses ....and supply their customers with a cheaper smart meter and export remainder.

I wonder if India considered this option ...could have been good for CC as we are apparently partnered with most of the largest manufacturers in India...I wonder if this is what JC meant when he said, or someone said he said sometime ago, and would have footed the " made in India " mantra ..that he would give the technology away for free for the license fees.

I'm trying to understand which communication solutions CC can now compete on, head to head with our new Omni offering.....in both new future tenders AND, if the opportunity arises, which competitor communication solutions are now vulnerable, or we could poach, or win.

Today's news could imply that CC Omni has superceeded ( at least in the view of today's distributor) one of our competitors solutions, which if true could mean that previous business that CC did not compete in, or lost out from, could have a second bite at the cherry.

I've always wondered what the difference is between an agreement to work together and a hard contract...there's always seems to ten times as many agreements than contracts in certain parts of the world....if so, and agreements can be broken, then this could work in CC favour, possibly.
An example of what I am trying to understand is...can CC now take on a pre existing smart metering job, that requires , or has already started to deliver on a cellular solution.

I would find it useful to have a dummy's list showing A) the types of jobs Omni can compete on B) what Omni can't compete on...using the appropriate solution names. Can omni compete with the gprs EESL tenders, as it includes cellular as part if it's solution, I guess not ...but what's difference between what EESL have been tendering and omni cellular....that's how confused I am at present. Anyone? Thanks Vas
