I have been short Ocado shares for many years. Long term patience being rewarded. The signs of a downturn re this share have been obvious for a lengthy period. Sobeys pausing further cfc rollout. New cfc customers being signed up extremely rarely. Kroger shutting some Ocado spokes.

Kroger are going one step ahead now, further cfc expansion is now in doubt. Still more to come..

They've said the automated fulfillment centres are under review. The market sensibly believes that this is something you wouldn't say as a major shareholder in Ocado unless you had to.

In my view Kroger are further shifting strategy away from Ocado. We will see in time. More downside to come.

“We’re examining all aspects of our business to drive greater efficiency, including a full site-by-site analysis of our Kroger automated fulfillment network,” Ron Sargent, Kroger’s chairman and CEO, said during the call.

He said focusing on delivery from the company’s existing store network was a key objective.

“We will improve the customer experience by using our stores to deliver groceries faster,” Sargent said. “Stores are our most important asset, and when we use our stores to fulfill online orders, the inventory is closer to customers, and the last mile delivery costs are lower.”

Leveraging the company’s vast store network also allows it to expand its rapid-delivery capabilities without significant capital investment, he said.

He said the company would provide an update on the automated fulfillment center evaluation during the third-quarter earnings call, which is expected to take place in early December.

Krogers exclusivity on Ocados tech in the US expires soon. If they decide to give up exclusivity who else would want to step in and sign up in the US unless Ocado reduced their fees? Kroger is a major shareholder in Ocado. They would have thought long and hard about the current signal of a potential retreat from CFC investment.

More downside to come IMO..

Even Ocados major shareholder - Kroger - is doubting rhe cost effectiveness of Ocados technology. All this could easily be foreseen long ago..

Great news! More evidence of Krogers reduced belief in Ocados tech. Patient shorts rewarded again!

"Kroger, which is carrying out a strategic review, told analysts it would take a "hard look" at some of its automated facilities and carry out a full, site-by-site analysis of its existing network.

It also noted it could offer delivery in under two hours from 97% of its shops, and flagged its "conveniently located store network".

Ocados debt pile is weighing heavily given the very few new cfcs being ordered from customers. Given history over recent years there's nothing to suggest a big deal is around the corner for Ocado. Costs will continue to rise.

More profits ahead for those short, following the obvious trend.

I have been short for many years. Lots of blips but downwards has been the obvious direction of travel for this share price. There are more profits ahead for patient shorts as the costs rack up for Ocado and new CFC announcements are reduced to a trickle...

The problem here isn't market sentiment, its Ocado Solutions gross underperformance for a prolonged period. Still no new contracts. Key existing contracts stalling further, all at a time when tech development and finance costs are sky high.
