The test certainly isn't expensive, at three to four pounds a hit it's one of the cheapest, probably the cheapest on the market. Also consider the backup staff, system, test centres around the country, labs, admin etc which is multiple millions and millions that keep the current testing on the road.

It's not approved yet for home use, that is currently happening and I think it will be successful. It's getting to a point now where the value in the test is huge even if the accuracy isn't guaranteed, it's as good if not better than the alternative in regards accuracy and whilst huge testing can draw poor results, mass testing will grab most people, reduce delays and get the economy going.

So why not yet? I don't think there ready either approved or capability to make, they won't announce something things that's followed up by how many and it's simply top of the iceberg volumes, they need to be capable of actually meeting demand and resolving the problem.

So if I was Colin I would be negotiating a volume and length of deal irrespective of what happens, i.e. How much value can they get the government to guarantee. Again based on cost alone this pays back against current, alternative options.

Wouldn't be surprised if odx and the RTC start making and then the product is licensed elsewhere if seen as world class. Mass test your people, continuously, any symptoms, worry, doubt, use a test, get an answer move on. Hundreds of people are to lose their jobs at the Mini car factory in Oxford.
BMW, which owns the plant, said 400 out of the 950 agency personnel onsite would be affected.
Production at the factory in Cowley was halted in March because of the coronavirus pandemic, with work resuming in May.
However, a "substantial" fall in customer demand during lockdown has led to a decision to reduce the number of shifts at the plant.
The plant is moving from a three-shift pattern to two shifts in mid-October, while still operating five days a week.
Agency personnel employed by Gi Group will be retained according to criteria such as length of service, individual skills and disciplinary records.
Those affected, all of whom work full time on the production line, will be informed in mid-September.

Gatwick Airport has revealed plans to cut a quarter of its workforce due to the impact of coronavirus.
About 600 jobs could be lost following an 80% reduction in the number of passengers.
The airport is running at about 20% its usual capacity for August, with only the North Terminal open.
Chief Executive Stewart Wingate said the cuts were a result of the "devastating impacts" coronavirus had on the airline and travel industries.
In March, the airport announced 200 jobs would be lost and it later took out a £300m bank loan. With the collapse in passenger numbers, the company said it was looking to further reduce costs.
About 75% of staff are currently on the government's furlough scheme, which is due to end in October.
Employees will be formally consulted on the restructuring plans before any jobs are lost.

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt told CNBC on Tuesday that the U.S. needs to further its investment in fast tests of the coronavirus in order for corporate offices to reopen in earnest.

"There's plenty of technology that allows for rapid testing, and with rapid testing corporations could open. People could go to work," Schmidt said on "Squawk Box."

But America does not yet have adequate testing infrastructure in place to widely deploy quick-turnaround tests, said Schmidt, who is leading a group organized by Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo to help the New York state improve its economy in the wake of the coronavirus.

Schmidt criticized politicians in Washington for not incorporating rapid testing more prominently in earlier relief packages. "In those trillions of dollars, we did not put in place the necessary structures to do rapid testing," he said.

Testing for the coronavirus in the U.S. has improved in recent months after it was beset by a number of challenges in the early stages of the pandemic. But the summer surge in cases, particularly in the American South and West, again put a strain on the turnaround time for testing results and illustrated the remaining shortcomings.

Schmidt, however, is referring to a different kind of coronavirus test than the lab-based diagnostic tests that have become common. There's been a growing push for rapid tests that produce results in as little as minutes. Some of these rapid tests would be administered at home. Others could be delivered at offices or schools.

Although these tests would likely be cheaper and processed faster, there are concerns about their accuracy in detecting infections. And inaccurate results from a rapid test could create confusion, such as earlier this month when Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine erroneously tested positive ahead of a scheduled visit with President Donald Trump.

Schmidt said in his opinion, "the test specificity and accuracy of these [rapid] testing systems is quite good now. However, they're not broadly available still. That's a tragedy."

Schmidt, who was Google's CEO from 2001 to 2011, said further investment in testing for Covid-19 is needed because the virus will continue to circulate for years to come, even if not at epidemic levels.

"The virus will be with us in one form or another for the rest of our lives, hopefully under control just like the flu. We will need forms of testing to make sure we keep it under control," said Schmidt, who on Tuesday launched a podcast, called "Reimagine with Eric Schmidt," which features conversations with world leaders on rebuilding a world changed by the coronavirus.

Some speak as though vaccines, tests etc are all so easy and straight forward it’s simply picking up the phone and the deal is done. Indian cases are surging, in countries where this isn’t the case testing seems the only answer and the quicker and cheaper these are the better for all. Happily holding
