Should have responded earlier but thank you for those kind words you posted yesterday evening. Much appreciated. Given the hectic lives many of you pursue (and myself once!), I am now adopting a much more uncomplicated and simplistic life-style now. But I do look forward to the dividends!
With all the global doom and gloom, how refreshing it is to see some such a positive posting. Since de-mutualisation in 2006, I have slowly increased my holding of this share. In fact it is the only Share I hold. It is probably a very modest holding compared to much more experienced PIs but as I'm now well retired, I have never desired to buy/sell in bulk. As the expression goes, it is time in the market not timing the market, that is key to continued returns. And throughout the most recent years, all of my postings have been accompanied by a Hold tag. I have no doubt that abrdn, like others, will turn the corner. As to when, I'm in no rush.
You are correct, to a point. In 2006 when de-mutualisation occurred, I was allocated just under 500 free shares. This would have been based on the value of the two small Endowments I then had with what was Standard Life. Off the top of my head, I cannot recall what the flotation price was in 2006 but since then, many Shareholders, myself included, would have added to these. But given the way the Share has been performing over the last year or so, the value of these "free" shares has now virtually become irrelevant.
Since de-mutualisation in 2006, my recollection is there have been two separate consolidations since then, both of which resulted in a reduction in shares held by PIs. The first was in 2015 following the completion of the sale of (what was Standard Life's) Canadian Companies and the second was towards the end of 2018 but I cannot recall what caused that consolidation. SL merged with Aberdeen late 2018/early 2019 so it may have had something to do with that. The Company morphed into abrdn in 2021 and to the best of my knowledge, although there has been a reduction in SP since then, there has been no reduction in shares.
Has any one else received a letter from EQ headed: "Would you like to buy more or sell all of your abrdn plc shares"? The letter contained all the necessary forms to complete. Just found this a bit strange and totally out of the blue. If I want to buy or sell any shares, I make my own mind up at a time of my choosing. Just seems a bit odd to be asked this by an Asset/Investor Services Company. Or am I over-thinking the reasons behind this, if indeed there is one?
Tacly is right in his post of yesterday. The US Central Bank (aka The Federal Reserve) has, not surprisingly, announced its biggest interest rate rise in nearly 30 years as it ramps up its fight to rein in soaring consumer prices. We're all in a for a rocky ride. Hold on to your pants!!!
I share others confusion and bewilderment about this Share, which I have held and added to over the years since de-mutualisation in another life! My Opinion remains "Hold" but it is currently with some uncertainty. The BoD just have to get a grip on what is going on behind the scenes and give all Shareholders the re-assurance they are looking for.
Alavib, please don't read anything into the subject headline, nothing personal. I completely agree with you and have often thought this of Fools. Do the exact opposite of what they advise and you're probably on to a winner. I often wonder who funds them.
Thanks for that Svend, much appreciated. I understood "wtf" but the rest was lost on me. I still use Windows XP and given that I live a very monastic and organic life (hardly anything digital in my house), I shall extend this similar courtesy to my old PC and let it grow old and die disgracefully. No replacement planned.
OK dopey Question Time. I have been in since demutualisation in 2006 but I notice a string of n/a's against all Dividend date entries for this year. Not sure if I have missed anything but does that mean there will be no Dividend (Interim or Final) payments for 2022?
To all interested, I have just received an E-Mail from Abrdn advising me of the following: " You’ll soon receive a letter in the post about what the change to EQ means for you - including your new shareholder reference number, how you can contact the team, and details for activating your account on the new share portal abrdnshares.com Simply follow the instructions on the letter to get started.". The E-Mail also advises me of my new Activation Code. Bit slow out of the blocks but they seem to be getting there.
cardo, I hope you are wrong but I have to say early indications do not fill me with enthusiasm, or belief, in the way this Company is moving, both in equal measure.
Mr Stephen Bird needs to call an urgent meeting of his new Team (Messrs Kaloo, Slater, McKillop, Macdonald and Struthers) and discuss and agree a proper strategy going forward. Top of the priority surely needs to be you ignore your so called "Ordinary" individual Shareholder (i.e. most of us on this BB) at your peril. Please take note and act accordingly.
Thank you coaster for your post. I too was scratching my head after 4thtiger's post. There may well be some relevance to this post but I have to admit it is lost on me. Let's hope your request for an explanation provides some answers. 4thtiger, over to you please!
I have been following the mixture of comments over the last few weeks about the name change with interest. "Abrdn" is a complete joke and I agree with taffyman. I would like to think that the BoD, and Stephen Bird in particular, acknowledged that they have got this wrong, swallow their respective egotistical prides and simply call themselves "Standard Life" . Everyone, person on the street, Investors, have heard of Standard Life. Even in 10 years time if "Abrdn" is still being used, people will say, "Who are they?" People have to feel comfortable about a name and "Abrdn" just doesn't cut it.
