So well said. I have been in since de-mutualisation in 2006 I think. And boy was I chuffed from then up until SLA, and now ABRDN came on the scene to say I was proud to be invested with SL. But now I hold my head in shame with this shower. I will stay in for the Dividends but any lingering loyalty I had has now gone out of the window.
Yes, HOLD. Forget trying to make the quick buck, certainly with this Share and in these most unpredictable of times. My recollection is that on every posting I have made, even since the merger, my Opinion has been to HOLD and I shall continue to do that.
I agree. As well as holding Shares in Abrdn (nee Standard Life, oh how I miss those days!), I have had investments with St James's Place since 1995 and added to it over the years. I would not want SJP to have anything to do with Abrdn (not that they would anyway)
Yorkshireman, I entirely endorse your sentiments. Pointless speculating as to what may or may not happen with this share or indeed any others. I have been with Abrdn (nee SL) since de-mutulisation back in 2006 and have modestly added since then. I gladly accept my bi-annual dividends as they add to my pension and enable me to get away a couple of times a year with my equally aged mates for a few days. We're off to York for 4 days next month for a friends birthday so may have to invest in a canoe before getting there!
I'm with bori550 on this. I'm a LTH and seem to recall this happened a while back and although we all received a lump sum then, my holdings went down and I needed to buy more shares to bring me up to the original number that I held. I too would prefer a one-off special dividend but that it unlikely to happen.
Would love to agree with you volcano but as a Abrdn investor of old, sadly I like many others have witnessed too many false dawns over the years with this SP. It will be what it will be and although I have added more on 2 or 3 occasions since de-mutualisation all those years ago when it feels like dinosaurs still roamed the earth, I think I'll just sit back now and take the bi-annual dividends.
In addition to what flanners18 has said, I posted a not dissimilar inquiry about the "old" standard Life on 12 Feb 23 and LLucan provided a most helpful reply the same day. It may be worth your while scrolling back on the Share Chat a few weeks and read these. It may (or may not!) provide additional information for you.
Wow, thank you so much LLucan for that very clear and succinct response to my confusion. It's all history now but I do rue the day when SL of old started to sort of unravel and the Birds of Prey started circling. But as that well known saying goes: ""It is what it is!". Thanks again.
Clarification needed please. In 2017, Standard Life reached an agreement to merge with Aberdeen Asset Management. It was announced that the merged company was to be named Standard Life Aberdeen (now the unpronounceable Abrdn)
So is Standard Life still part of Phoenix Group? And why is it that the current TV advert, relating to those approaching retirement who are asked to consider whether now is the time to consolidate their pensions, refers to Standard Life? I'm no financial expert but I would appreciate some clarity of this from others more knowledgeable on this Board. Does Standard Life still exist, and if so why are the Shares I purchased in Standard Life upon demutualisation back in 2006 still not trading as Standard Life as a financial entity? Oh how I miss those Standard Life days.
I have said on this Board for at least 10 years that Abrdn is a plodder. I have held and added to since de-mutualisation many years back and I stand by that moniker. I wish I had the optimism of saintly but for now I shall stick to Hold. Whether its re-branded name is working or not my Jury's out. There are others who say Aviva and Tui have weathered that storm by re-branding but the difference between them and Abrdn is that you can at least pronounce their re-branded name. In the meantime, I shall continue to hold my shares but it will take some miracle for me to consider increasing my holding just yet.
In true Abrdn style, are we witnessing a daily plod back to where this Share once stood? It may have something to do with the Buyback I do not know. But if it carries on plodding up like this, who am I to moan? Come 2025, it may even have reached the dizzy heights of £3.00 again!
I have a few more than you and I am no financial expert. However, my advice, given the challenging times we are all now in, is HOLD. I have always said that in my postings and although you will only receive slightly less than £80 on 27 September, that will help towards your energy costs!
Given his age (assuming by his "handle" he was born 1 year after the end of WWII) probably demonstrates he has nothing better to do with his life than draft his narcissistic rants. Shame he can't put his free time to better use by volunteering in a local Charity Shop. Or perhaps he tried that but his attitude got in the way and he was declined!
coaster/rebelheart, you have both beaten me to it. Porsche1946, what a very sad and angry 76 year old you must be. These Discussion Boards are intended to share and exchange reasonable thoughts, views, and opinions on this specific Share and the markets generally. I for one have no interest in your comments on your "best trades" or how you enjoy avoiding capital gains. Typical views of a narcissist! You need to see your GP and have some suitable medication prescribed in the bucket load to contain your anger. Please don't bother responding because we all hope you will be removed from posting any further drizzle on this and, hopefully other Discussion Boards.
