I promised to share this document. Well worth a read. I will share relevant key extracts here too.
My general observations which are relevant for investors are:
* The roadmap sets out specific details about the government's plan to get us out of lockdown and to get the economy and society working again taking our health and well being and children's education into account.
1. The section on test, trace and isolate shows that the government intend to deliver an intensive approach to regular mass testing (twice and three times weekly)including making lateral flow tests (available by post and in testing centres and businesses, workplaces etc) to communities, school children, students, care workers, NHS workers, care home residents and all those receiving care support in their homes and businesses to take home- between now and the end of June.
2. Ongoing testing is required and will be prepared for in tandem with local authorities to suppress outbreaks quickly wherever they may occur. Vaccine effectiveness will continue to be monitored.
3. The UK has delivered more vaccinations than any other country except Israel- by some way. We are at 26% compared to the next highest proportion of people vaccinated in any one country which is the US at 10%. Other countries are then dramatically lower in single figures as a proportion of their populations atm.
4. There will be a big testing pilot delivered from April 12th to assess the safety of large events. That will inform decisions on whether it is safe to proceed to the stated intention to allow big events from May-June 21st.
5. Vaccines are highly effective in reducing mortality and hospitalisation from the disease and they could be achieving 75% reductions in transmission. The roadmap recognises clearly that vaccines will not eliminate the disease.
6. There is an intention to continue to monitor for the forseeable future cv19 and 'variants of concern' and to activate test, trace and isolate plans in each case or take other actions if necessary .
7. There is a serious commitment to sharing vaccines, treatment and diagnostics through the G7 for developing countries.
8. Testing is likely to replace self isolation for international travel in the future if the ongoing review of this supports it. N.B. The UK market for international travel has plummeted this year from about 100 million to 2 million.
9. Additional funding for £400 million will be added to a budget outstanding for 2020-21 for next year to create a budget of £2billion for testing going forward. This is supported by a new action plan and this will be published in March.
