What the Chinese are doing here is straight out of the "cornering the market" playbook. Produce as close to your market and at as big a scale as possible and vertically integrate (nickel to stainless steel). They'll get their unit costs down to such and extent that nobody will be able to compete. Tsingshan, China's nickel champion, will directly feed CATL and BYD, China's battery champions. All designed to carve out a significant proportion of the emerging EV market. If, in the process, they suppress the nickel price down to their break even point to squeeze out the competition that's what they will do. All with the backing of the CCP.
One of Horizonte's principal attributes is it is not Chinese. Shifting geopolitical priorities may turn out to be more important to Horizonte's success as just about everything else.
