With the ranges the Chinese are quoting you'd have to assume NMC. The range Tesla is quoting NCA or LFP? Given the price quote for the Model Y it has to be LFP.

The legacy automakers in Germany are committed to nickel rich batteries. It looks to me like the Chinese are also, if only for the European market.

If you read the NI43-101 that ShadowLess post, not that I read it all and from memory, there was a very large estimated CAPEX for the development of Malmyzh.

But I’m pretty sure you’re right when you say “who knows whose hands they will end up in.” After all why should the Russians do things any differently to the way we do?

I suspect it will be really difficult to draw any meaningful conclusions from IG Copper's sale of Malmyzh. Apart from the fact that it’s a different commodity and a different period in time the physical differences are very significant. One simple but significant difference is the access to infrastructure.

I’ll take my hat off to anybody who tries and I’ll do so a second time if they come up with anything meaningful or useful.

Horizonte has already said they expect to make an announcement on Vermelho 1st. H 2021 (although that will probably get pushed on) so there's definitely something in the pipeline. Araguaia funding secured first then Vermelho ? second should see us spike to well above 8.35p. How much above will all depend on how many decide to lock in profit. Where it settles after the spike(s) is anybody's guess. I expect it to settle comfortably above 20p.

Doesn't really matter where it goes in the interim to be honest. I'm here for the long game.

At $200m Malmyzh seems to me to have been a bargain. Admittedly it was sold the end of 2018 and back then copper was wedged between $2.50 and $3.00 per lb. so bit of a difference between then and now.

The take away from the sale of Malmyzh if anything! Getting a premium for a half decent asset in Russia will be a challenge.

The Malmyzh copper project looks like it is something quite special. A snip at $200m IMO.

BYD are ditching nickel and cobalt. They're opting for LFP batteries. Tesla has also shipped some Model 3's with LFP batteries. LFP is likely to take a fairly big slice of the Chinese market in the immediate to near term but that's likely to be eclipsed by nickel rich batteries by the mid 2020's. The only reason they're going for LFP is because of price and because nickel sulphate is in relatively short supply. This is nothing to be overly worried about IMO.

I'll try and post a few articles on this issue later if I get the time.

In the City there's always somebody who knows and there's always somebody who tells.

Relatively chunky buys an hour or two before the bell is a sure fire sign that something has leaked. Sometimes it simply turns out to be news of an RNS being lodged that leaks which subsequential turns out to be relatively un-interesting. On the other hand sometimes it turns out not to be. We shall see soon enough.

I don't think he needs to? He's made his position clear on the transition to EVs and his predictions for the years to come you'll find in his previous presentations. That's the interesting thing with Seba, you can watch his presentations from several years ago to see how they match up to what has actually happened. I think he has been remarkably accurate to date.

His current work goes beyond the transition from ICE to EV. Worth checking out if you have both the time and the interest.
