That idea has been floated before but it seems Norilsk look for projects with over 1% nickel grades and 1m+ tonnes of nickel (or something like that). We don't quite qualify although how fixed these conditions are is debateable.

Norilsk might compromise on that.

It's no secret that Norilsk has a disastrous track record on environmental issues. The areas around some of their processing plants are some of the most polluted you'll find anywhere on the planet. They are slowly cleaning up their act but they still have a long way to go, as some recent disasters attest.

I think Norilsk's nickel comes predominantly from two different operations one on the Kola Peninsula the other at the aptly named Norilsk. This will give you a better picture.

China should finish the year on somewhere around 2.5m, likewise Europe with the ROW contributing around 1m. Total 5.5m to 6m. Anything about 6m would be exceptional any thing below 5.5m a disappointment.

I don't know how much ore they dig up each year but last year Norilsk produced 166,265 tonnes of class 1 nickel.

Teck are not base in the UK so why the Holdings RNS? I thought non UK based entities were only obliged to notify the company for every 5% boundary crossing.

You could be right. On 23/05/2020 they held 150m (10.4%). That dropped to 145m(10%) on 30/09/2020. By 26/02/2021 that figure had gone up to 168,930,000 (10.48%). It looks like they increased their position by 23.93m over a 5 month period. The percentage has dropped due to the larger number of shares now in issue.

Well spotted. I wonder if that means they'll up date the holdings figures on the web site to reflect the increased number of shares in issue? If they do it should show where some of these new shares have gone.

With the ranges the Chinese are quoting you'd have to assume NMC. The range Tesla is quoting NCA or LFP? Given the price quote for the Model Y it has to be LFP.

The legacy automakers in Germany are committed to nickel rich batteries. It looks to me like the Chinese are also, if only for the European market.
