Well I'm a man or so the vet tells me. Approaching 60 but not speeding so there you go. Too old to rock and roll but too young to die as they say. Enough of that. I used to mess around in penny stocks back in the 1980's and went to live the the bush life in South Africa from 1984 -2003 and came back here. Not knowing anything about computers never having owned one, I immediately bought saturday editions of the FT as I used to do. Penny stocks were listed in the 1980's under the acronym USM unlisted Securities Market now its Aim. Pouring through the list I came across ASOS at 17p. Phoned a broker for details, they did'nt know much about what it did and could offer no advice. Anything smaller than Vodaphone and it does'nt come up on their radar. In no time it went to 22p, 25p and shot off to 40p so I thought it was too late. I don't want to think about what £10K at 17p would be today, but it shows the worth of instant access to information the web offers today and what I might have done had I information back then. The market is so fast and difficult to read and long term investing in growth stocks like Warren Buffett does is just the same. ASC is a WB stock of the most phenominal kind ie compound growth in sales revenue and profit year on year that no other company I can think of has achieved. Every analyst says sell because the high p/e is unsustainable but they've been saying this for years but the show goes on. Nick Robertson has struck a powerful chord with young women buyers around the globe and there are more websites he can open in other countries. As you say its convenient shopping with a no quibbles return policy and plenty of new designs in stock to keep customers buying. I missed this incredible boat with much regret, but I am a fascinated observer. I wish you all the best with your holding.

Thanks your post but have'nt had time to reply till now. I think ASC has a huge fan base of women aged 18-35 yrs old, who right around large areas of the world share similar tastes in celebrity clothing fashion ware on the cheap. You know as well as I do young women love buying clothing accessories, changing their wardrobes from time to time and they like what ASC sells. Why go trawling through shopping centres to not find what you want, when with the click of a mouse and I presume a paypal account/debit card you can buy online and choose something you like from a screen. In this celebrity conscious world girls want copy garments at a price they can afford. ASC have the designers to keep coming up with new stuff so the customers have new things to eye up. Furthermore with new websites abroad accessing massive new customer bases it can't go wrong, unless they do something to alienate their buyers. Nick Robertson seems to have hit upon something like Pandora's box. I should have bought in 2003, but now I'm just a fascinated observer. Re your mining shares. I've just got RRR and OTC for the moment. RRR board has some interesting news from guys attending MIC today. Worth having a read, because it looks like A. Bell esq is going to start taking more control of managing certain of the operations to get things moving properly to suit his modus operandi. Don't know quite what to make of friday's rns and whether the sp will fall on monday. As regards your other miners. I did'nt go for AFE when I should have and ATC I follow it but despite positive actions to increase production the sp has'nt moved much except for one spike up to 2p or thereabouts. Its a difficult market. All my others are energy stocks like vog,aex and dpl, which I hope will have a better time this year and next year as well.

Well this morning I see the Investors Chronicle has joined the the crowd by mentioning it as a sell for the nth time, but as ASC fans together nothing seems to stop this company's progress does it. With such compound growth in sales and profits in a major retail recession, its perhaps no wonder that investors are prepared to pay such a high p/e. Apart from that I hope your other stocks are bearing up. Its a difficult market with news expected on many fronts that are holding back some of mine. For example RRR and Colombian gold production update. Missed out on Solo and only had a little in Sar. Today its Ntog. Sometimes I wonder if longterm holding will pay off but I will have to wait it out.

Well there is no stopping this company as we agreed somewhile ago. The only problem is the p/e which is over 100 ie cheap as chips as they say. This will adjust downwards at the end of their financial year to take into account the increased sales revenue. Its interesting that over the years of watching this share every analyst says the same thing. Sell this thing because the p/e is too high, other retailers are starting up their own internet sales to eat into Asos sales and the future cost of sales in the USA will be a drag on business. By this I mean warehousing and the fact that Asos is paying shipping costs for US customers. It would be interesting to know what level of returns there are criss crossing the atlantic, which you would think would be expensive. Nevertheless its success seems to defy all the critics and I see no reason why it should stop. Afterall its happening in a bad recession, the worst UK clothing retailers have seen in years. It just shows how enormous the reach Asos has around the world with its extra websites. Will they set up more say in the far east and Australia for example. All this with headquarters in Barnsley of all places. So much for passing this up at 17p in 2003. No imagination !!

Well we can't be far away from annual fugures coming out. Six monthly figures came out last october. Profits should be better without the advisory fees incurred by the Hoodless Brennan reverse takeover that never happened. That plus the share purchases by directors in december leads me to think that things may be on the up. Any thoughts?

Still keeping a weather eye on this stock waiting for it to fall back. I t seems to be getting close to a good price to buy in. I wonder if this drop is news driven ? Can't find an RNS unless I've missed it. Any opinions on this ??

I remember KMR from the old days as it was picked up by Investors Chronicle long ago. Should have bought for under 20p and held. There were too many ifs or buts about the company to my mind, but now with the whole of east africa coming under energy developments everywhere KMR got into Mozambique early. The Chinese will snap up everything of course once its all up and running. I would not be surprised if a buyer came calling at their front door. Will check out the story as you suggested. Not a great RNS from RRR., but I thought too much was expected too soon with so much expected on all fronts. That was partly the directors fault but when the sp reached 19p I should have sold as it was an obvious spike but I never get my timing right. I bought at 6.80p so am in profit. I'm sure it will work out to the good but delays in third world countries are inevitable and 74p can't be on the cards this year barring a miracle.

Glad to see you are still alive. Bellbonnie made some bucks when the sp rose to above 1p and sold out quickly before the retrace. I was'nt involved but still watching with interest. Maybe worth a small fling on a further retrace on the basis of a possible rise in annual profits to come in for the past year. Don't forget the directors have bought more stock, which tells me that things are getting better for ADS. This is a bit like sar or atc and come alive quickly for a short while. My PF is down today and sometimes I wonder if its worth holding aim stocks or trade them on a spike and cash up whilst looking for further opportunities. I'm holding 36k in cash and perhaps should top up here and there. I just don't know which way to jump. Everything is so volatile. Hope you are doing OK.

ASOS in todays Investors Chronicle as a sell for all the usual reasons ie p/e too high, will have to open warehouses abroad and free shipping to boost overseas sales will have to come to an end. Yet for the moment the sp defies gravity. I think this because its making good profits, which the high street is not. The IC argues that it will face increasing competition from other retailers online, something that I believe has been going on for awhile but to no detrimental effect on ASC. I'm not in it either because I missed the boat years ago as you know, but I still like to follow it because its been such an incredible success in a business that's known be diificult particularly in a recession. Thanks for the tip on KMR and will check it out. One I might invest in is GBP, an oil explorer with a Namibian block next to Char. There is much excitement in the area and Char's sp has risen more than tenfold before a drill. Take a look and read SD77's posts.

P/E only 94. Can't get much cheaper can it !! Off topic I see you are in RRR. I am as well but its not much fun watching it slip when so much positive is going on. My PF is slipping back slowly but surely and its not possible to do much more than wait for good news. However I sold a few so have £30k to put somewhere. Maybe I will top up OTC that tanked on me. Missed RRL . Any suggestions or ideas would be welcome. I'm not reading the market very well at the moment.

Share trading here dwindling to a near standstill. Perhaps with luck the sp will drop to enable a purchase at or a little below 0.50p. At some point these share will run up again. Directors have increased their shareholdings, which imo means that business must be improving. Annual figures should be out in April 2011 and should show the company making a profit. Remember consulting fees from the Hoodless Brennan unsuccessful reverse takeover put the company into a loss, these fees of course will no longer appear which could make a significant difference this time around. So I smell an opportuniy for another small investment here. Any Thoughts?

Good RNS tthis morning. Sales up 59%. Overseas sales as a proportion of total sales up from 37% to 44%. Very positive but p/e still very high but will come down going forward,

I agree with what you say. After yesterdays steep fall, I expected a bit of a bounce up today. However its not the time to buy as the sp has not settled down yet. I don't think it will fall much further though. I want to leave it a few weeks, but of course everything could change if an RNS comes out. All my other stocks are languishing awaiting some positive news as well. One has to be patient in this game and remember that it's the second mouse that gets the cheese.

16.16p to buy. A run up until sales figures are announced I assume next week. P/e of 80 is ridiculous though and makes me think that sp will fall after news. Figures should be good though.

I was actually talking about those bastards in HMRC I owed £9k in CGT. Nothing to do with bankers. Mind you I had to collect a copy statement from HSBC reflecting interest accrued after tax for 2009/10. I left almost 27k on a savings account. In one year I got just £22. That's got to go on my tax form somewhere. Enough to keep David Cameron in Kit Kats for a month. That's what you get for being a saver and not a borrower. The second word's all.I talked to a young girl working for HSBC with a business management degree. She is £30,000 in debt. Somehow I get the feeling she's never going to be able to pay it back. Every thing today is just debt,debt and more debt. All of it unpayable whatever the govt says. I don't want all my money in the market, but I 'm beginning to think about changing that philosophy. Inflation is eating up my savings and the market is the only place I can put it. You can't leave it rotting in a bank but the market looks risky at times as everyone's thinking the same thing. I checked out mhg, but its involved in financial planning. Such people have screwed me in the past with poor returns. I'm doing better on my own though for how long. I shall await for ADS to fall back and may be give it a shot. Now to cook some supper and dream of finding a winner like BEM.

I've just had a visit to HMRC in High Wycombe trying to sort out my capital gains for 2010. I owe the b******s over £9k but could'nt understand the forms let alone try and pay them online. Anway its sorted and I have until the end of the month to pay. I use a broker fortunately to look after my ever changing portfolio and they provided me with formal looking calculations neatly typed out with gains and losses etc and that should see the revenue off. On the forms you just put figures in with no place to explain your calculations. Utter madness imo it only invites a visit from them if they think you're putting one on. Brokers charge 3.50% in and out roughly. I object to it and rib them constantly, but I am beginning to think where CGT is concerned its worth the price. My brother in law had a visit from them - a random inspection- and it was'nt much fun. The last thing I want is them challenging my figures. Re ADS this has been a nice speculative run and you got out at a good profit. Trading at 0.2-0.30p was just inviting it imo. In my experience this will happen again up to 3 times in a row before interest in this sort of thing dies off. The first time brings this onto a lot of people's radar screens particularly in trading rooms, where guys day trade say 1million shares and make fast bucks and pay no commission. Todays turnover is relatively small, but yesterday it was massive for this little share. Next time it happens it will be in February sometime. Wait for the sp to pull right back and think about giving it another go. It won't retrace to 0.30p maybe 0.50p -0.60p to buy and will reach maybe 1.50p plus on a run. It'll be just a trade but it will be exactly what you have just done. PTCM is another that might do the same. Its only just come on the market and set up by a former MD of Citygate, who built that company up successfully and wants to start another communications business. Something for you to watch and think about.

No idea what's making the sp run up. Its just a speculative charge up. Mind you it used to be 1.50p some while ago if you look at the chart. I'm its full of day traders having fun in and out and back in again. See who loses when the music stops. I'm not in but following it with interest. It normally barely trades and will probably resume that activity when the excitement has passed. Maybe ptcm will do the same soon. I f you're in ADS would suggest that you take profits soon while the goings good.

Well well. As fourteenhundred heads off to play golf in the Algarve this share looks to trend up a little further today. Perhaps this will hit a penny before you're back. Spread is up a little also. Lets hope for a decent amount of trades.
