Only spent time in Belfast this time, where I was able to see for myself that life is rolling along pretty much as usual. They mostly seem to be driving pretty decent cars - but I suspect that they are taking advantage of the low interest rates and the fact that you can now run cars "on tick" - so much a month after a deposit is paid. I was however able to canvas opinion among the academic community and some of our separated brethren one of whom spoke at Martin's funeral. Managed a few gargles and paid for it today on the course - whilst I was bathing my gums I took the chance to ask for a view of the future amongst the company in the bars that I visited. They all seemed anxious to remain in the EU - which is what they voted for - one or two suggesting that if Scotland gains admission following their second referendum - Northern Ireland would wish to go with them, which seems very sensible to me. They all seem to feel that Grand Britannia has seen its best days and will find it difficult to create enough employment of a worthwhile nature - because employment opportunities will only occur where employers can recruit people with sufficient education and work ethic to justify the investment. House prices are rising, certainly around the Ormeau Road, where they have gone up by more than 50% in the last eighteen months. I know the weather was beautiful and everything looks good on a fine day but I am still left with the impression that the province is in a much better place now - if only they can get the assembly running again. There seems to be a much improved community engagement now, whilst it is still not all beer and skittles and the 12th still comes around every year the north is making progress which is more than can be said for the footsie. As the deadline draws nearer I fully expect to hear some of their spokesmen speaking in tongues if a microphone is put in front of them. It was more or less admitted today, on various channels, that the emperor has no clothes and that even if Theresa May puts on her biggest hat, she won't be able to fool anyone when she tries the bluff on Europe. In the past this country could always rely on America when both were working on five year cycles because their elections fell at different times when America was rising it was helpful here and vice versa. Now that Donald is in office that avenue is closed because he has no interest or understanding it would seem of economic cycles. It doesn't help our share all this confusion, but at least Europe can start to make decisions and Ireland is well placed to take advantage of any improvement in economic activity which arises out of all of this once the dust has settled. The Conservatives running around like headless chickens is great fun to watch but it is a shame that it can do so much damage at the same time. Don't think my nephew has been given his ticket to Frankfurt yet but it can't be long now looking at todays antics. My first estate agent is calling tomorrow. Good luck all.

So far, I am not hearing of any proceedings being taken against those who appointed him to his various positions, if they had adjudicated properly his fraud would have been discovered at once. How many more are there? - One of my golfing partners, a recently retired surgeon commented that as long as you get into the system "and pick up the lingo" there is little that can hinder your progress as evidenced by our man in Cornwall. Then we look at Europe with its legions of re-cycled politicians and beaurocrats and you can begin to understand why the whole edifice is not more nimble. They will talk a lot about battery cars being the future but not everyone wants to buy a Sinclair, and peddle like F*** while you are driving. Education Education Education has not been the success that was promised, with up to 40% of young people failing the current "PASS" mark and being required to remain in school until they can achieve grade C - understanding Brexit becomes easier. A United Ireland is still a dream for many reasons not the least of which is the conservative party who have always presided over a divide and rule policy - in case they needed the Unionist vote. In the days of John Major this country paid a heavy price for their support. Scotland is a possibility but it has nearly as many Orange Men (why aren't they painted orange) as the north - and then there are the rangers supporters and ALL there benefits. For the moment I will be satisfied with an assembly in the north - as long as they can make it work - they are not yet ready, as far as I am concerned, to be allowed join forces with the republic politically. There are still a few die hards who are capable of posing expensive distractions (policing for one) - in another twenty years some form of "integration " may be possible. We have some news so far as the elections are concerned but I don't know positive it is - spoke to my daughter this evening and she was quite happy. The Unionist leader is going - hopefully Arlene will be going and the leader of the Alliance Party increased her majority so it is not all bad. The leader of Sinn Fein disturbs me however with her non-stop delivery - surely she is not capable of thinking as quickly as she speaks - but it does happen in Kerry... From the level of debate achieved in the last broadcast, I was optimistic that there was an increasing level of political maturity present amongst the candidates which hopefully would allow some form of co-oporation with regard to economic activity and the border post Brexit to be developed. There are many reasons why the two sides of the border should co-oporate to their mutual benefit - what will probably happen is that there will be an Irish solution to the border, because its return would be far from welcome.

But only by a whisker - this was not the news that I was hoping to hear but it is early days yet. With regard to Paddy's question is this share worth a shot at this price - YES - but not immediately. It's a risky strategy, waiting to see which way the wind is blowing before jumping and you could miss the opportunity that may very well arise once the drag anchor has been severed. Europe has been sat on its hands for so long - you would think, waiting for he English to make up their minds before they start to push ahead for a change. Don't just toss a coin - see what odds you can get for e tenner.
