And my advice (to give followers a choice of approach) is to develop a balanced portfolio, which includes balancing the percentage held in cash, and to consider your long term goals. Jumping on and off the bandwagon is difficult to time and sometimes only works with significant sums of money (which can have devastating consequences at times). I advise a portfolio mix of growth stocks, dividend stocks, index funds or etfs, and an appropriate balance of cash available for adding some more good stocks when market downturns like this raise some promising opportunities.

SatellitePro, whenever I think 2030 I'm reminded that when I started my Hydrogen portfolio a few years ago I made a forecast spreadsheet labelled 'optimistic'. For 2030 I had the ITM share price target as 349p.

psmith64, it's hard to take you seriously. You brag about being correct 1 month ago that this downturn was coming. Yet only two weeks ago you were bragging that you'd got back in and ITM would soon reach 400p. Move on another two weeks and you've swung 180 degrees again. Obviously you're always going to be right if you keep backing both horses in a two horse race. I'm pleased for you that your timing this week has worked out perfectly, but if it's respect you're after perhaps try and stick to a consistent train of thought.

larryh, I totally agree. I can't look at an ICE these days without thinking how old technology it is. It's certainly starting to feel a bit like visiting a steam-engine fair. It's certainly amazing old technology - pistons, crankshafts, thousands of teeny-tiny explosions converted into rotational motion. But as far as I'm concerned it's had its time. Now I'd like less noise, less pollution, more power, more torque, instant response - electric has so many more advantages. Add in hydrogen for longer range and quick refueling, now that's what I want.

psmith64, I expect you're poised and ready to fire. So close to your first-mentioned price target of 250p. Of course, you may still be right and your later figures of 225p and 175p could happen. But to reach your first target in only 2 days...must be tempting, eh?

Where you've gone wrong Seaangler is you should have sold them all at 121p and bought them all back at 100p, then sold them all at 158p and bought them all back at 100p (twice) then sold them all at 358p and bought them all back at 228p and finally sold them all last week at 330p and just be sitting on £1m profit calmly waiting to get all in again. Simples.

I suspect today's moves are more to do with China tensions. There's a lot of recent gains a lot of people will be wanting to crystallise. And you're not going to be able to match the sort of selling value we're talking about with buyers of anything in these conditions. SP's has got nowhere to go but down until people can't resist it any more.

By the way, did anyone hear Graham Cooley on Radio 4 "PM" this evening. Not earth shattering, but at least he was on.

Verticas, a company doesn't have to be profitable for the company to grow and the share price grow with it. I learned that mistake in not investing in Amazon 20 years ago. For a decade I said "But it can't survive, it doesn't make any profits". Now look at it. And my investment would have grown handsomely. In 10-20 years time I can imagine ITM easily being a 10bn+ business so that's why I'm invested now. It won't go in a straight line obviously, but if it gets to 10bn from here that's still another 6-fold increase. But it is going to require further rights issues, that's for sure.

taskmaster, interesting article. I enjoy reading the negative articles to determine whether I've missed something, or if it is the negative article that is missing the point. In this case the article seems to completely misunderstand the scale of the problems being solved by hydrogen. He's probably right regarding transitioning fully from natural gas to hydrogen for heating homes...that's probably the last of the applications that makes financial or efficiency sense. For storage, the other storage systems he suggests are either very inflexible or equally inefficient as hydrogen electrolysis. He makes a grudging acknowledgement of hydrogen for heavy haulage and 'some' industrial processes. But seriously even if you 'only' accept those last two as going to happen, they are absolutely enormous markets for green hydrogen. Even ITM would need a second factory if either of those came good.

I thought this would be of interest here as some of us on this board also hold Plug Power. And more recently, becoming a direct competitor to ITM, Plug Power announced their desire to be global leading green hydrogen producer through a company acquisition. Linde is also mentioned during the discussion. Segment starts at 37:40.

I was going to post the same thing. Even the board seems a little quieter again. I guess that's a sign that all the rampers and day-traders have moved on to their next target. I hope so.

I always thought the GLC FCell was a good idea - a plug-in fuel-cell car. I was disappointed when they abandoned it. I suspect it'll come back one day once hydrogen is wide-spread installed to support heavier-duty transport.

I read both the positive and the negative stories, in order to look out for the possibility that I'm wrong. So in your opinion, why is this article wrong to tell us we're backing the wrong horse?

Maybe ITM will license their factory blueprint to get a 1GW factory established in China.

Any idea McPhy production capability and future factory plans? Their website shows 4000m2 factory opened in 2014. Have they added to that yet? For comparison, ITM new factory is 12000m2.
