Well the "current law / HMRC rules" state specifically "NONE TAXABLE"

Thanks for that link but after reading it its what most know already, where does it say anything about stocks & Share ISA's and possible future changes to the current Rule ??? As a full tax payer I am simply talking about ISA's not pensions, life allowance or anything else, simply what the current HMRC rules are, there is NO mention in changing those rule's !! well I can not see any changes.

I will rely on what my adviser says or wait until I see changes in official writing, that's best IMO.

I have had professional advice on "existing ISA accounts". I have been told quite categorically that existing ISA accounts that were opened on the basis of "TAX free" can NOT be changed willy nilly to taxable. The reason for this type of saving is that it was illustrated by the HMRC as TAX free. I agree that New accounts could change in the future and my point was why open an ISA if its taxable, what is the point ?????

You may want to clarify this for yourself and come back to confirm your findings as this could be very misleading for some members that are unsure. You say "I would expect that there would be some protection for the existing amount in an ISA"
The protection is already there in black and white in the HMRC guidance on ISA where it clearly states TAX FREE.

You do not pay tax on:

Interest on cash in an ISA
Income or capital gains from investments in an ISA

The Government can not simply scrap this document for "existing accounts" as all hell would break lose and £ millions & £ millions removed from accounts and closure of same.

Just another note on existing ISA's. Imagine how many millions are held in Childrens ISA accounts ( For their futures ) over the years since ISA was introduced. I think there would be many up in arm's if the Tax man attempted to tax any profits made. Just a thought.

This was talked about at length a few weeks ago and what came out of it is;-

"Current ISA accounts that are (ATM) NOT subject to TAX" on profit can not be effected as they were taken out and set up as "TAX FREE". If they change the tax rules in the future they can not just say they have changed their mind and say you now have to pay tax on any interest on current held tax free accounts as this would not be legal.

They could of course state that any New ISA accounts may be subject to TAX on interest but what would be the point in future ISA's, none.

I spoke to my financial accountant over this subject and was assures that current ISA's can NOT be taxed.

Hope he is right, or I will fire him lol !!
