Indeep hi, its so weird in talking about a way to give ones family earnt money that you have made throughout your life without having a hand in to remove it ie the T./M.

Next step is to seek a professional advisor / accountant as there is many ways they know how to do this sort of thing and that's my way forward, best I think as my brain now is boggled :-)

If you are retired and have NO working Income apart from a very small private pension and the state pension say both £15k are you saying If I made £1,000,000 profit on a share investment in say an ISA acc, that is classed as (''surplus income'') are immediately IHT exempt ???????????????

Thanks for that. Best place hide em under the mattress / bed and give them away as and when. Birthdays, Christmas, "GGP day" etc.
The 100 box is tiny and can quite easily stored at home or in a safety deposit box.

Thanks for your reply but I am told that Britannia's are legal tender at they are worth face value £100, (Since 2013, the Britannia has been manufactured as a 99.99% pure gold bullion coin. The Gold Britannia coin (1 oz) is legal tender in the UK and has a face value of £100, the largest face value on any UK coin).
however the actual Gold price is what you can sell them for. ( So say 10 are worth £1000 as legal tender you could in fact sell them at the current Gold price at £14400 each.

If I gave say 10 and they kept them for say fees for Uni or a deposit for a flat or house can the be sold easy and would they get the full value at today's Gold prices. less a fee. ??

In regards to my question the other day re brits if we do not need to report to HMRC as they are CGT & VAT free, if we gave away say 20 brit coins to say a niece its then given away as they are legal tender. SO if you do not have to report having them in the first place and you give them away as gifts how would the T/M be interested in these gifts and if you did give away before you kicked the bucket these would reduce any Inheritance tax on your total assets.
