Watch the you tube vid of him talking about superdry, future, craft, culture, and how emotive he is with it- he's not giving this up, no way, but he does need to re-brand to encompass Gen Z, perhaps do a separate label, DNA?, get someone in like Erland Haaland to wear it and front it, and use social media to the max in every way possible. He did it before, even without social media when he started out, so he can do it again, just life is now very different and social media has become the most effective marketing tool that there ever was! He's doing the right thing in paring down the business, you don't need many physical stores these days, you don't need a 1001 designers, you can run a competition on social media to get new design ideas for free! my views, but I don't see Dunkerton as one for giving up, it's not in his 'DNA'!

Jakey, that's how peeps make mistakes, you don't chase shares, you buy at bottom, set a good foundation, and then top up as things progress. Too many chasers, too many wanting to get rich on a quick fix, it doesn't happen, some will get spiked or stopped out, others will go and fritter it on another quick fix riser that becomes a loser, we've all been there, but slow and steady wins the race imo.

Shares in the clothing retailer continue to rise after more than doubling in Friday's session amid indications that takeover talks are heating up. On Wednesday, regulatory filings showed that Norwegian-based investment fund First Seagull bought a 5.3% stake in Superdry. On Friday, the Times reported that First Seagull considers Superdry "to be ripe for a bid". The newspaper added that Sycamore Partners, an American private equity company, and Authentic Brands Group LLC, which owns Ted Baker and Forever 21, are said to have Superdry on their radar. After market close on Friday, Sky News reported that Rcapital and Gordon Brothers have held initial talks with Chief Executive Julian Dunkerton about a bid to take Superdry private. Both specialise in investments in financially challenged companies."

Knowbodyyouknow, no one else wanted Joules to my knowledge, it didn't have such a diverse customer base either I suspect, as Joules was dedicated mainly to ladies fashion as far as I'm aware, and wasn't on the same scale as this. The difference here as I perceive it, that if JD risked doing that, he would also be massively risking that someone else will swoop and pull the rug from under him, and he has a much greater chance of losing the business completely. Better to be in control yourself, than leaving control to the likes of others who in reality, don't give a hoot about your business, imo, but just my opinions!

Hi Atisha, I think I read somewhere that she also started with a market stall, having designed her own take on a tweed mini skirt and deciding that agricultural college was not for her! I believe this is why they both state they have very like minds, they started out in the same way, and both are now very successful in business.

Hi Munichmann, interesting thing to me is that JD wanted to be a doctor but fluffed his A levels. Well, he's certainly made more money doing what he is doing than what he wanted to do, that is for sure! But if JD is reading this, and he still has the inclination, I would say to him, and to everyone, it's never too late. I went back to studying after 38 years away from it, and added a B.Sc to my name, thinking that never on this earth would I get a science degree, I hated science and maths at school, always did badly in exams, so it just goes to show, never ever say never, set your goals, and you can achieve it. So come on JD, we've set out goals here, and we're rooting for you to take this back private, it's your baby, you deserve to have it returned to you, it will thrive under your control, but by the same token, please don't sell us shareholders short! It's certainly a nail biting few weeks now!

If JD doesn't take this private, then it stays listed. It then becomes a much longer play to see what is achieved, but with the monies that are due to come in this year, and the paring back that is due to take place, I can't see this is on the verge of wipe out or any such like imo. After all, bearing in mind the valuations for the company at what was it, 400-600 million, and we are sat with an mcap of what, 21 million or thereabouts, then surely it would be a fraud on investors, and this is where JD has to be careful, as anything that looks remotely like a cop out at a much lower price or a CVA might well look like the same.

I do think it is clearly his intention to take this back, and it would seem more viable to do it now, than wait say another 6-12 months. I do think it is weighted in our favour that he will do so, and I hope I'm right. my views of course.

On crude figures, say 200m buy out to take it private, with approx 99 mill shares and JD holding roughly a third of those, that would only cost him around 133 mill. Also, bearing in mind the valuations which are a lot higher, then even £2 per share seems, in rick's words 'cheep'! Who knows what will happen but thats the huge risk v reward here. I hope though that JD will reward shareholders handsomely. Bring it on JD, the ciders on you :)
