When he started out there was no e-commerce, there was no internet selling, the market wasn't flooded by cheap japanese clothing, uni students and the like were happy to go to clothes stores and market stalls to buy the 'cult' merchandise then.
Times have changed. The money is with those generations who are now in their middle age and with middle class incomes and savings. Those people now want quality clothing, limited editions, not mass productions of what everyone is wearing around town or on the beach.
His wife brings out some new lines every Friday. She announces their forthcoming release the night before on insta, with a release time of 1pm every Friday. That items are limited editions and high quality. They generate repeat purchases and loyalty from people with spare cash to buy week in week out. I buy from her, I've bought every week over the last month for example, and like Harrods and other upmarket stores, she gives rewards for loyalty, and her packaging for her products is second to none.
That's the way I think he will go. He will follow suit. And as Atisha alluded to, they might even join forces, who knows?
Upmarket sellers seem to be targeting certain places, such as a store presence in Knightsbridge, London, and select very upmarket out of town places in the UK, and where the money is in the Middle East. That's how things have changed, and they changed dramatically for instance when the Russians decided to get out of the UK due to the war situation. Their money left London and went to the Middle East!
Follow the money as they say.
my musings for what it's worth.
I certainly don't envisage SuperDry disappearing, but I do think it will be revamped and possibly re-branded.
