As fund managers across the country cheered the unofficial reopening of Australia’s market for initial public offerings, perhaps none were more excited than Blake Henricks.

The ex-Macquarie stockpicker who co-founded Sydney-based boutique manager Firetrail Investments has pounced on the flurry of new listings this year by adding some of the more high-profile names to his $437 million Australian High Conviction Fund....

...Virgin’s debut on the ASX in June arrived on the same day Andrew Forrest-backed gold producer Greatland Resources hit the bourse. Henricks had already initiated a position in Greatland’s UK-listed shares in September after the company bought a stake in the Telfer gold and copper mine in Western Australia and flagged its intention to list on the ASX.

While Greatland’s debut got off to a good start, the stock has plunged nearly 20 per cent below its IPO price of $6.60 after the gold miner shocked the market by cutting its production guidance for the next year and flagged higher costs.

“That downgrade was surprising and disappointing, but I think the share price reaction is overdone,” Henricks said. “Still, the company now needs to work on regaining investors trust.”...

...Virgin, Greatland and GemLife all remain in the concentrated portfolio that holds up to 35 companies. The fund returned 17.5 per cent in the 2025 financial year, beating the ASX 200 Accumulation Index’s 13.8 per cent gain....

...Looking ahead, Henricks still sees the most value in the gold space – even after the record surge in the price of bullion. Firetrail owns shares in Genesis Minerals and Newmont, alongside Greatland Resources...

The ASX’s trade performance this week has been nothing short of remarkable.

Today, the ASX 200 lifted by 0.73% or 64.8 points to 8938.6 points, a new all-time high.

Every single trading day this week marked a new intraday high....

...Today’s rally was a team effort, with 9 of 11 sector players doing their part.

No participation awards for consumer staples, which was essentially flat, and info tech, shedding just 0.16pc.

The technology sector has had a rough time of it lately, down 2.39% for the week despite our record breaking performance.

On the other hand, the ASX 200 Resources is back in fine form, recovering from a bit of a slump yesterday with a three-pronged rally.

Gold stocks Meteoric Resources (ASX:MEI), Meeka Metals (ASX:MEK) and Greatland Resources (ASX:GGP) each gained about 5%....

Correction: Q1 2026 Oz Financial Year, not 2025

Tomorrow we'll be halfway through Q3 2025 (Q1 2025 Oz Financial year).

It's generally looking good so far...

The GOLD price has held up well, above AUD5,000 every day, and averaging around AUD5,100, so slightly above the Q2 average.

The COPPER price has been volatile, but it's looking similar, on average terms, to Q2.

The OIL price has also been volatile, but currently dropping, at around USD65, from it's high of USD80 in Q2

Yes, a good day, so far, up 6.25% @ £2.55. It'll be interesting to see where we close the day, as it would be great to see a sustained rise now.

The world faces a record glut of oil next year as a Saudi-led cartel ramps up production – just as global demand slumps.

On Wednesday, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said oil markets looked “ever more bloated” as supply “far eclipses” demand, with the Opec+ cartel of oil-producing countries – led by Saudi Arabia – ramping up production....

Ole Hansen, an analyst at Saxo Bank, said the IEA’s estimates meant a “record supply glut next year with oil inventories accumulating at a rate of 2.96 million barrels per day, surpassing even the average build-up during the pandemic year of 2020”.

The price of Brent crude oil, the international benchmark, fell as much as 0.9pc on Wednesday to below $66 per barrel.

Prices have fallen about 10pc so far this year, having peaked at more than $82 a barrel in January before Donald Trump’s tariff campaign raised concerns about global economic growth – and thus demand for oil....

So, why did some posters on here allege that they sold up, at what may well be the lowest possible sp? I really do fear for some investors, but, they may well have personal reasons to do so. I don't miss that!

Indeed! OK, as a long term investor in GGP, since 2018, it still amazes me that, should the recent WDU assays have been published, by a new explorer, the doors would have been blown off, with investors piling in to that company! However, it's 'just' growth drilling, so doesn't have anything like the impact. That said, it'll definitely come to light eventually, so, if you miss out, I'll have no tears for you, for sure. DYOR & GLA!

Indeed E1, I remember posting, continuously on here, for some time, that anyone should buy in, as I also did, topping up, every time, over months, at anything below 7p, which was a "ludicrous" price.

Personally, on the ii & Fidelity platforms, I've had no issues with dummy trades today with volumes over 50K, so it may have just been confined to Barclays.

This follows what I also posted from the WSJ last week, when Barrenjoey analyst Daniel Morgan said the drivers of the sp downgrade in GGP are confined to ore sources at Telfer.

“Telfer ore is not the main game for the Greatland investment thesis,” Barrenjoey says. Instead, it’s ore from the Havieron deposit, which can transform Telfer from a high-cost mine with a short life to an operation with low costs that can sustain mining for much longer. Barrenjoey said the 24% share price fall that followed Greatland’s FY 2026 downgrade is more than the 5% reduction in its net present value. It retains an overweight call on Greatland."

I wonder what the target price will be when we get more of the Telfer growth drilling results/resource figures?

@ pj70 Maybe saving them up for later? Who knows, but I still feel that we'll either see a big RNS on drilling, and/or the Q3 update will be very different (very more positive) over Q2. As I've said before, it would be crazy to even contemplate amending projections again, so, IMHO, they've been very conservative in FY26 figures. Only time will tell, as always!

BTW, we're almost 50% through Q3 2025, and look at the continuingly high POG & copper!
