UK aims to crisis-proof supply chains for defence industry amid threat of geopolitical instability.

Britain is holding talks with the world’s biggest mining companies about securing supplies of critical minerals amid fears that a confrontation between the West and China risks crippling the arms industry.

Glencore, Rio Tinto and Anglo American are among the businesses understood to have met with government officials in recent months as part of efforts to crisis-proof the supply chains of domestic defence contractors.

One potential option under consideration is supply deals that could see the companies agree to reserve a share of their output of key metals for the Government....

Investors not directly invested in gold bullion and miners are underweight on “the biggest trade in global markets presently and should be looking for dips” says a prominent Australian fundie.

Roscoe Widdup, who runs Triple Eight Capital’s Energy Vision and NO17 gold funds, says the gold price can still go higher, opening further upside for gold miners he says are trading at discounts to historic valuations.

Those comments come in a note attached to the firm’s latest fund update, with T8’s NO17 fund adding 5.7% in January (against 7.6% for its benchmark and bullion) after a 151.1% uptick across 2025 (vs 137.9% benchmark, 51.2% bullion).

Widdup says a host of factors – US Government debt, concerns over US treasuries, and a perfect storm of both elevated central bank and ETF demand – mean gold should push higher after consolidating around US$5000/oz.

Bullion was fetching around half of that at the start of the second Trump presidency.

“The recent strengthening of the gold price (and therefore expansion of gold mining profit margins) has not been reflected in stock prices,” Widdup said.

“We believe this is on account of the fact that it has been easy to ignore the sector for the last 10-12 years, since the peak of the last cycle and a run of disappointments.”....

Golden Prospect Precious Metals Fund has Greatland Resources as it's 3rd largest holding at 5.4% of it's gross assets. They've just released their latest factsheet dated 31st January...

"Supported by a 1% appreciation of sterling against the dollar, the Company’s NAV advanced 12% in January. This compared favourably with sterling returns of 9–10% for the VanEck Gold Bugs Index and the Philadelphia Gold & Silver Index, and 8–9% for the GDX and GDXJ ETFs. Yup, as Paddy mentioned previously, Shaun Day indicated in the earnings call (January 28, 2026) that the next half-year results (for the period ending 31 December 2025) are expected to be released in February, so I was assuming next week.

Caterpillar has completed its roughly $1.1 billion acquisition of mining software specialist RPMGlobal, adding mine planning, scheduling and simulation platforms such as XPAC, HAULSIM and TALPAC to its portfolio. The deal folds RPMGlobal’s cloud-based enterprise solutions for fleet management, maintenance and ESG reporting into Caterpillar’s MineStar ecosystem, tightening integration between OEM equipment data and planning tools. For engineers, this signals deeper OEM-backed digital workflows for haulage optimisation, drill-and-blast design and life-of-mine scheduling, with potential lock-in around Caterpillar machine data and interfaces.

In our database of 30 Software stories, Caterpillar is one of the few OEMs repeatedly pairing hardware launches (e.g. the Cat 6015 and 6060 shovel updates) with software or autonomy moves, signalling a push to lock in end‑to‑end mine systems rather than just fleet supply.

The RPMGlobal acquisition builds on Caterpillar’s recent presence in Australian projects such as Greatland Resources’ Telfer fleet upgrade, which is likely to make Australia a key test bed for tightly integrated Cat equipment–software deployments.

As soon as I saw the opening share price this morning, and thereafter, in relation to the ASX close, I immediately thought tree shake. It just looked like a classic tree shake. The fact that some new/relatively new posters are appearing on the forum today, with inane, negative comments, has pretty much proved it, IMHO.

It's no big deal, but noticed more simply because of the RNS requirement. Just like all of the biggest asset managers their holdings require almost constant, automated adjustments across their portfolios, and these relatively small buying or selling actions don't signal anything more than maintaining portfolio balance and manage risk.

OK, I'm no expert on this, so looking for someone who's up to speed on the tenements, but, I came across this today, and, on the face of it, it looks like we (Greatland Exploration Pty. Ltd.) applied for a new tenement no. 45/7236 on Friday. Located at Havieron East, East Pilbara.

Anyone have any other information? Bamps?
