It makes perfect sense to align the commencement of Phulbari with the Teesta project. The distance between the two is only 50km (31 miles), and the overburden would be put to use straight away, I assume either by rail or road transport. A rail link could be laid very quickly by the Chinese.

Well, I bet they are now regretting not going for Open Pit mining back in 2005. Clouded by politics, personal and political gain.

The Phulbari box cut method may well open up an opportunity to mine back to some of that coal that has been stranded due to the closure of Bara. I think due to the large operating costs, the mine should close.

I can't see any reason why Yunus can't approve this project , pre elections. It would take the sting out of the politics which has dogged the country for the last 20 years, and this would bring the production of coal forward by 12 months, rather than waiting until a decision is made post 2025. It would save another 12 months of going round with the begging bowl, and another 12 months of reserves being further depleted.

The Adani Group letter to the PDB says that the group owes $845 million from Bangladesh. The money has become outstanding for power it exported to Bangladesh until 6 January. If the money is not paid by June, PDB will have to pay a delay fee alongside the due.

I always thought old Fouzel was pro coal. He is either weak for not standing up to Smiler, or has been given some incentive not to pursue coal.
