As of May 2025, Rockfire Resources PLC (LSE: ROCK) is actively advancing its Molaoi zinc-lead-silver-germanium project in Greece. The company has been conducting geotechnical drilling along a 1.5 km strike length, encountering multiple lodes of massive sulphides, which is promising for the project’s progression.
In September 2024, Rockfire announced a significant upgrade to the mineral resources at Molaoi, resulting in a JORC Inferred Resource of 15 million tonnes at 9.96% zinc equivalent. This includes 1.09 million tonnes of zinc, 260,000 tonnes of lead, and 19.1 million ounces of silver, placing Molaoi among the top 20 undeveloped zinc resources globally.
Additionally, the deposit contains approximately 105,700 kilograms of germanium, a critical and rare metal used in semiconductors and fiber optics.
Given the project’s scale and the presence of critical minerals, larger mining companies focused on securing strategic resources within the EU might view Molaoi as a valuable asset. However, as of now, there have been no public announcements or confirmations regarding acquisition discussions.
Full Ownership: Rockfire, through its subsidiary Hellenic Minerals S.A., holds 100% ownership of the Molaoi zinc-lead-silver-germanium project in the Peloponnese region. In February 2025, Rockfire completed the final payment for the acquisition, securing a 30-year exploration and mining license.
