The latest Investing Matters Podcast episode featuring financial educator and author Jared Dillian has been released. Listen here.
it's all a bit puzzling. however, i just found this which seems to offer a realistic appraisal:
velocys plc (lon:vls) is the topic of conversation when co fund manager gervais williams of premier miton investors caught up with ************* for an exclusive interview to discuss the uk listed market and some of his holdings in miton uk microcap trust plc.
************* asked: now, as it was earth day on 22 april, it would be amiss not mention a couple of green investments. velocys plc (lon:vls) is making tremendous strides to enable production of sustainable aviation fuel, what are your views?
gervais williams commented:
“velocys, at this stage, is getting involved in the first production of jet fuel from household waste so it’s quite a big step for them and they’ve got plants going out with their technology.
at this stage, they don’t have significant revenue because the new plant isn’t open but given that yesterday the eu mandated that by 2040, jets would probably need 40% of sustainable fuel. in the short term, the share price has gone down, this is reflecting the overlooked nature of the uk stock market and anxiety about the future.
specifically, the company in our view has invested, it’s getting to the finishing post in terms of that investment, as that becomes recognised, we’d like to think the valuation will rise considerably.”
velocys plc is a united kingdom-based sustainable fuel technology company. the company is engaged in the engineering, manufacturing, development, and financing of sustainable fuel projects.
Sadly, their poor PR has been a given for years. It is the one issue that Expatbrat and I consistently agree on. An optimistic view might suggest that the Directors can't buy because of insider trading restrictions, although their past record is hardly reassuring!
ISTR that Red Rock Biofuels actually produced an end product, using the Velocys technology, before the (coolant ?) leak that brought the project to an end came to light. As I recall, the leak was nothing to do with the Velocys elements of the project.
XPB: Your consistent view is informed by your consistent (and unexplained) bias against Velocys. You, and just about all the other contributors to this board, are well aware of this. The only mystery is what drives you to spend so much time and effort, given that you have no financial interest in the company. If you are not doing it for financial gain, I am at a complete loss to understand why you bother other than to provide myself and others with the opportunity to pick holes in your arguments.
XPB: It may tell you what you want to know, but to set such store by it without providing any substance for your claim smacks of your usual negative approach. Schubert left Velocys in 2017, yet Strategic Biofuels was not founded until 2020, which contradicts your claim that he left Velocys to set up a rival company. Moreover, he jumped before he was pushed when leaving Velocys (see VLS web site for details) and it is reasonable to suppose that they would not want to supply his new company as a direct competitor. This is, of course, mere conjecture, but then again so was your post.
XPB: A perfect example of how to answer a question that wasn't asked because the answer was blindingly obvious to anyone following this share.
XPB: "Your responses are normally better than that." I didn't think your post justified a more measured response; a view born out by your latest effort. Again you offer your view with no cogent facts to support it. I won't urge you to try harder as I find your current level trying enough.
XPB: Do you have a schedule that obliges you to post negative comment at 3pm whenever anything that might remotely be seen as positive information emerges.? It is so predictable that it is almost boring. It you tried dealing in facts, rather than conjecture coloured by your own negativity, you might get less bad press on this board. Alternatively, you could just stop posting unless you had something factual to offer.
Oh ye of little faith. Three large buyers today who obviously think otherwise. It would be helpful if the Velocys PR machine actually contributed to the discussion, but then we all know that is unlikely to happen (a point where XPB and I actually agree) given their previous efforts. I'm sitting on my hands until we get some facts rather than speculation.
Most long time followers of this board have been asking the same questions for years. He never responds. It seems that he is incited by any positive posts, and feels that he has to respond in a negative way to balance the equation. Just treat him as part of the scenery.
xpb: You are trying enough for both of us! As VLS and Altalto are effectively the same company, there is nothing to stop Altalto from making up front payments for the Velocys equipment they require. Indeed it would seem to make perfect sense as it would provide cash flow for Velocys at a time when it is needed.
xpb: "I’ve read the grant details on the Ricardo website". And you think others haven't? Your conclusions are just that, your conclusions. I accept that there is a need to attract equivalent private funding, all your other points are moot. Have you considered the fact that Altalto will be using VLS supplied equipment which means that VLS should get a fair slice of the grant as income.
xpb: Again stating the obvious (we can all read!) with your usual negative slant. I hate to think how much time and effort goes into your posts, and how you justify it (unless, of course, you are being paid for your efforts).
XPB: Not sure why you bothered. Unattributed quotes are worthless. Obviously HMG does not agree with your view of the company.
XPB: If only you would stick to facts and omit your own very well known and long-standing prejudices, you might be better received on this board.
GG: AFAIK there are currently no SAF manufacturers with plants up and running in the UK.. HMG have yet to make an announcement of government support and, until they do so, UK projects are effectively stalled. Prospects in the USA appear somewhat brighter. Velocys have interests in UK, USA and Japan. DYOR , form your own opinion and make your decision to invest (or not) based on your own findings NOT others' prejudices.
XPB: The meaning of EXECRATION is the act of cursing or denouncing; also : the curse so uttered. So what exactly were you trying to say?
XPB: As others have already said, you have once again failed to get your facts right. Your desperation to discredit the company appears to border on paranoia. Perhaps you should seek help.
XPD: If you had looked at the list of participating companies (option next to Agenda) on the Barclays link) you would have found Velocys listed (it's near the bottom!). Such puerile attempts to discredit the company do nothing for your credibility, such as it is. .
XPB: "The desperation is palpable! " - using long words inappropriately does nothing to support your argument. A few facts might have done, but, not for the first time in your case, facts are sadly lacking. The inescapable conclusion, therefore, has to be that you are unhappy with the recent increases in SP and that the desperation you refer to is your own!!
XPB: So what point are your trying to make? VLS are using their own FT reactor and catylist, and what they consider to be the best commmercially available processes to augment it. ISTR that Fulcrum have bought in the whole process, including the FT reactor. Both are intending to produce SAF at commercial quantities. It is a very big market and there is plenty of room for both. Calling VLS silly names because you don't like them, when they have essentially made the same commercial decisions as Fulcrum, is something of a nugatory exercise.
