HocusPocus I have no understanding of TA and a basic understanding of charts. But I don't dismiss your contribution. However can you explain to a philistine like me: WTF is a golden cross in terms of LGEN? I'm not impressed by the complainers about the SP. The final dividend next Apr / May is very big compared to the interim. I'm very happy with a average 7% annual return on my investment. Also as the final div > interim, It's a higher return in the next six months. Gimme a break, this is a great share to own.
Trek, do you think there is a positive correlation between the nominal price of natural gas and the DEC share price? I know there is a non-causative or at best a tenuous relationship as DEC hedges gas prices. However, from just eyeballing the charts, gas price peaked at 9 in late Aug and DEC peaked at 1.40. Since then, the nat gas price has been falling and so has the DEC share price. For example, gas price up by 6% today and DEC up 1.5%. Is there a level of ignorance in the markets that should be considered? DLG drop yesterday was followed by a drop in MNG and LGEN - even though the latter two have no exposure to home insurance? Interested in your opinion.
Agree paul30661 , I've decided to just take this loss on the chin. I have no reason for holding with the dividend scrapped. Sold 5 mins ago! Maybe I'm wrong but I just can't see a reason why anybody would consider this a buy right now.
Yes Loaf, I have a few divis coming in over the next few days and will be using to buy another small amount . I plan to continue doing this. Other big favourites of mine are IMB and LGEN. Reliable divi payers. I add when I can.
Is this company in administration? Is there an investment case here?
Trek, I've an investment here and I'm up about 7% on capital gains alone. Dividend income for last 2 years or so on top of that. Can I ask your opinion re price of Nat gas down c. 8% today and DEC SP up 1.5%. Obviously not directly correlated due to hedging. Do you agree there is no correlation between gas price and DEC share price? If so, what do you think is the catalyst for SP moves; the FTSE, for example? I have in mind the strong positive trend in SP over the last year. I am asking you as you seem to understand the DEC business a lot better than I.
redlse, thank you for your excellent analytical work here. How do you interpret the last figure of +12% in 2022; seems to buck the trend? This share has been sliding for the last decade. Do you think the +12% in 2022 reflects the positive sentiment recently? I am sitting on a capital gain of about 20% here on top of my divis based on my most recent purchases in the last two years. I am considering selling out while significantly ahead. Excellent dividend is pushing me to sit tight or reduce at the moment.
Thanks OWLS. Where can I find a SMA chart for any share? I don't use charts i my investment decisions and maybe I should.
They raise their 'target price' when the previous target price seems too low to be believed. Nothing to do with value. These analysts haven't a clue, just responding to trends and zero to do with 'analysis'. If LGEN hits 280 before next ex div date, they will raise their target price to 300. They are 'overweight'. Overweight slobs. The hilarious thing is that the market reacts to these predictions.
Mr Math, you have done well! One of my big mistakes has been failure to take profit and failure to suffer losses by selling and holding cash proceeds. I am not a winner in this Casino on capital appreciation. I am a net winner on dividends though. LGEN has been great for me over the last few years, others have not.
I do not hold this share in my portfolio - yet! I'm a great believer in observing businesses that do well just by looking around me. Nokia and Microsoft i the early / mid 90's; Netflix in 2000. I spotted none of these of course! However I remember being in Penneys (aka Primark in Ireland) last year and there were up to 20 cash registers on the go. Mind you it was near Christmas. Then I'm told that Penneys in my location in Ireland have expanded into the upper floor of another shopping centre. I also hear about this being a very popular location for women's clothes. Now I read about the online sales initiative and expansion in UK. I am also intrigued by the idea that inflation may drive people to lower cost retailers. In short, I think Primark is a good investment. I have two reservations. Firstly, I don't know what % of ABF Primark comprises -maybe someone can help me here?. Secondly, the yield of 2.8% is low for me. Everything that I see seems to add up to a convincing case to buy this share. Any comments appreciated!
Phyl, I'm of a similar mind. I may top up in January. My largest single holding now, followed by IMB and DEC.
OWLS, I'm interested. How has the MA rule worked for you? Genuine question; I haven't a clue about charts.
Why be offensive, SD235?
yes a small uplift. But I always want to know the 'why' behind the rise or fall! Sometimes it's obvious and sometimes not! I'm still down -20% on capital value! Hoping for a rise in SP in the new year in anticipation of dividend payouts.
Yes, I just added a small amount. Torn between DEC and IMB as the latter pay their dividends unevenly. My next top up will be IMB in late December from dividends.
longtime, point taken! But there are higher yields available in the FTSE 100. For example LGEN at 7.5%, RIO at 8.6%. Also in the FTSE 250, DEC with a 11.5% yield. Based on current share prices. I bought all of these at lower than the current SP so my yield% return is higher. We must also take into account that IMB pays its dividends unevenly so the next two dividends are actually 50% greater than the previous two. So over a 6 month time horizon if one were to invest now and sell late March, the annualised effective yield for IMB is around 10% for that period. This may be a factor for shorter term vs long term investors in buying the stock recently.
Davidspellacy. You misunderstand. I'm saying that at 6.6% yield, the shares are not as attractive as they were last year at >10% yield, other things being equal. But as pointed out elsewhere here, that is only one factor that influences the direction of the SP. Other factors seem to outweigh that recently. Guitarsolo and TradingMonkee have hit the right notes I think.
SP now at its highest level since Sept 2019. I'm wondering what's driving this? At 6.6% yield, it's not the stellar divi payer it was last year. Any insights, anyone?
volcano ,I am taking your predictions as a bet as you don't back it up with a rationale! I hope you are right on both counts; FTSE 100: 7600 and LGEN £3 + by Christmas! If you are right I will toast you with Jameson 12 year old whiskey on 1st Jan! You do understand that you are making a bet in a race. Well the only difference is that LGEN is a solid company and pays great dividends. I am overweight. I also exercise daily.
