Could be part of essential public heath kit16 Nov 2020 15:17
I’ve worked in public health for over 25 years . Any approach to a pandemic needs to be based on prevention (infection control in this case), vaccination (preventative), effective management and treatment and ultimately a cure. I can see these masks being an essential prevention tool, even with a vaccine. TB today kills more people than any other bacterial infection in the work today. 1.4 million people die and about 10 mil become sick. We’ve had a vaccine (BCG) since the 1950s. It doesn’t give 100% protection and becomes less effective over time. A vaccine isn’t necessarily a silver bullet. All HIV vaccine efforts have failed so far. Coronavirus are not new, and this strain will continue to change and mutate. Anything we can add to the toolkit right not is a bonus and could be part of the solution.
