"deep edge" is a new buzzword, lets deconstruct...

"edge" - as in edge processing is on the device, at the edge of the network, where it is needed - as opposed to "in the cloud" where you have bandwidth, latency and connectivity issues. Or in English, the processing is local, in the car/device so there are no speed issues or security issues with sending the data elsewhere.

"deep edge" normally things at the edge are thin and lightweight, but this is highly optimised and accelerated (if the underlying platform does that) and really powerful and meaty.

JC great patent, I think any car or elevator journey will be so boring now if this isn't implemented

Phil, if you read the Ford patent that JC posted yesterday, it was all about reducing annoying alerts by knowing which "zone" you are looking at, then how long on average you will be looking there before turning back to the road. With Subaru, they didn't put in enough Human Factors research.

Esc, These patents do look all similar, but what matters legally is not the description that JC posts, these are the "easy to read"parts that set the scene. It is the "claims" that define whether a patent is unique or not. So although there may be many patents to skin a cat, the methods that are claimed are different: Boil cat like a tomato, flail cat through counter rotting rasp wheels, coat in clay and bake in oven, etc etc.

Nice patent, well written and easy to understand. It has an alternative optical path that optimises the HUD. Will work well with a company that can do gaze tracking with a single camera. Shows some of the problems that are faced when designing a system to fit inside a car. It would be so much easier if the IR camera didn't need to face the sky! Bring back inverted windscreens

I guess that it is possible that during the development of our system with the S-class that the requirements were baked into the chip, allowing them to convert to using Xylinx chip solution

We were never locked out of oil and gas. The CAT deal was about off-road.(in oil speak that is upstream) So we have plenty of tankers delivering down stream to customers. Toll does tanking as do several of our South American customers.

So Subaru is outward facing stereo camera, probably the DMS is standalone and the same FotoNation system as in the Forrester
But with Veoneer on board, I would expect them to pick up the DMS and embed it in the same module and chip once the current sunk cost of the existing suppliers devices are used up. Of course we know a DMS supplier who works really well with Veoneer
