Chilean copper producer Antofagasta (L:ANTO) said on Tuesday 2019 profit climbed 9.5% on higher sales and lower costs, but flagged it would review its spending plans due to the tough global economy.

The London-listed miner said earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose to $2.4 billion (1.96 billion pounds) in the year ended Dec. 31, from $2.2 billion a year ago.

"In view of the current global situation, the expenditure programme is being reviewed to identify possible savings or deferrals," Antofagasta said in a statement.

Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the UK's Labour Party, has this evening been holding talks with Prime Minister Boris Johnson in Downing Street.
"If this virus affects us all, as it does, we all have to be treated fairly and properly in this," he said.
Mr Corbyn, who stands down next month, also said he would not be self-isolating even though he’s over 70.

ECB President Christine Lagarde has taken the unusual step of apologising to her fellow policymakers for comments that roiled the Italian bond market last week.
Lagarde spooked investors by saying the ECB was not there to help virus-stricken countries such as Italy in the debt market, drawing fury from political and financial circles that later forced her and the ECB to row back.
I wondered if she got away with it, this is not the first boo-boo she has made and it won't be the last.

We've had the FED, we've had the BOE next up today at 12:45 the ECB and that well known associate of Bernard Tapie Christine Lagarde.Let's have another big bazooka, they seem to be the trend lately.

Having sold half of my remaining Lloyds shares on the way down (wish I'd sold the lot, hindsight and all that).
Rightly or wrongly I've started buying again, 24,886 shares at sub 40p to start.

First time ever I couldn't get a quote on Lloyds, they don't have liquidity problems that's for sure.

ECB/Largarde late to the party again,
with most of Europe going into a "lockdown" phase she has announced this could be worse than 2008.
Threating interest rate cut for Thursday and possible expansion of QE and with the toolbox nearly empty she has to rely on government's to assist, and expect peeps to spend more. Good luck with that one.

Carney's last act to fcuk it up for Bailey.

Britain's first stress test of the response of banks to climate change will help the Bank of England determine if polluting assets should face "penalty" capital charges.
In other words a bank capital charge.

Mark Carney has told parliament's Treasury Select Committee that the central bank is examining the case for a "brown penalising factor", effectively a tougher capital requirement for polluting assets held on a bank's books.

Just a reminder part 1 was a new levy on banks and other firms regulated for anti-money laundering.

The sooner he goes the better.
